I think it's an accumulation of experiences. Something taught from our mother, whether an experiences as in a lesson learned or knowledge passed on and lived in your life.
I believe wisdom is something that is lived in our lives, the sparkle behind our eyes so to speak.

Hm yeah, that's a good one. But there is nothing that's concrete as wisdom. Sometimes sitting and meditating helps me, other times it seems to be the opposite. Sometimes talking helps, sometimes it's the opposite. Perhaps wisdom is more on how you view the situation? I dunno. Would someone who is wise, or dishing out wisdom necessarily know that it is wisdom? Probably not it seems. Perhaps it's one of those spontaneous things that points out stuff.

How can someone be wise? Someone who is really good at getting rid of suffering? But would they even be a person being wise, or just acting normal. Is a rock or a tree wise?

The Body of Truth Has No Marks

Subhuti, what do you think? May the Tathagata be perceived by
the thirty-two marks [of a greater man]?
Subhuti answered: Yes, certainly the Tathagata may be perceived
thereby.
Then Buddha said: Subhuti, if the Tathagata may be perceived
by such marks, any great imperial ruler is the same as the
Tathagata.
Subhuti then said to Buddha: World-Honored One, as I understand
the meaning of the Buddha's words the Tathagata
may not be perceived by the thirty-two marks.
Whereupon the World-Honored One uttered this verse:

Who sees me by form
Who seeks me in sound,
Perverted are his footsteps upon the way;
For he cannot perceive the Tathagata.

Real Designation Is Undesignate

Subhuti, what do you think? Does a disciple who has entered the
stream of the holy life say within himself, "I obtain the fruit of a
stream entrant?"
Subhuti said: No, World-Honored One. Wherefore? Because
"stream entrant" is merely a name. There is no stream entering.
The disciple who pays no regard to form, sound, odor, taste, touch,
or any quality is called a stream entrant.
Subhuti, what do you think? Does an adept who is subject to
only one more rebirth say within himself, "I obtain the fruit of a
once-to-be-reborn?"
Subhuti said: No, World-Honored One. Wherefore? Because
"once-to-be-reborn" is merely a name. There is no passingaway
nor coming into existence. [The adept who realizes] this is called
"once-to-be-reborn."
Subhuti, what do you think? Does a venerable one who will
never more be reborn as a mortal say within himself, "I obtain
the fruit of a nonreturner."
Subhuti said: No, World-Honored One. Wherefore? Because
"nonreturner" is merely a name. There is no nonreturning; hence
the designation "nonreturner."
Subhuti, what do you think? Does a holy one say within
himself, "I have obtained perfective enlightenment?"
Subhuti said: No, World-Honored One. Wherefore? Because
there is no such condition as that called "perfective enlightenment."
World-Honored One, if a holy one of perfective enlightenment said
to himself, "Such am I," he would necessarily partake of the idea
of an ego entity, a personality, a being, or a separated individaulity.
World-Honored One, when the Buddha declares that I excel
among holy men in the yoga of perfect quiescence, in dwelling in
seclusion, and in freedom from passions, I do not say within
myself, "I am a holy one of perfective enlightenment, free from
passions." World-Honored One, if I said within myself, "Such am
I," you would not declare, "Subhuti finds happiness abiding in
peace, in seclusion in the midst of the forest." This is because
Subhuti abides nowhere: therefore he is called "Subhuti, Joyful
Abider in Peace, Dweller in Seclusion in the Forest."

Cool. I have it, but haven't gotten around to reading it. Right now I'm reading the Samyutta Nikaya. It's pretty sweet but kind of repetitive. It's also humongous. I was quite surprised when it arrived in the mail the other day.

What are your favourite Sutras/Suttas?

I've only read a few Buddhist texts but I've enjoyed them all. The Heart Sutra is atop my list. Diamond Sutra next. A Zen text called The Sutra of Hui-Neng was nice. And the Tibetan Book of the Dead was tough to get through but rewarding in its own way.

I've skimmed through the Tibetan Book of the Dead, and the things I did read I liked. I think it maybe cool to get someone to read it to me while tripping.

Could you give some examples? Sounds interesting. Do you think most of the cosmological Buddhist stuff more of metaphors, or do you think they are actually true? By that, for example, is there actually 6 realms of hell beings, hungry ghosts, humans, animals, titans, and gods, or is that more a metaphor of humans and our emotional states?

If I could define wisdom, it would be knowledge applied with practical
experience to the best overall reaction and outcome. Its like the
difference of a master and the student. A student knows(Knowledge), but
a Master Practices and masters every bit of leverage(Wisdom).

I think that different cultures have different ways of describing the same occurrences. So for the most part I focus on the occurrence that is being described and focus less on the particular title given to it.

One wise guy said it is appliance of knowledge. To me it seems so too - you can know many things, but putting those things in practice is another thing.

i think of wisdom as both non-attachment and the ability to avoid delusion (which is the fuel of attachment)

basically the ability to see through any possibly arising dream sequences in your mind - the result of which is unattached peace

i think that is accurate.  basically because wisdom comes from within. its not something thats confirmed externally.. pretty much anything external is going to be relative, including wisdom.  so i mean wisdom is self determined
for example, if you have three dudes discussing the nature of experience, then you will give "level of wiseness" labels to the three individuals based on how they relate/compare with each other(these are the only 3 humans in existence).  so wisedom cannot be absolutely determined externally as a fact. each seperate individual will determine, for himself, the degree of wisdom of himself and the two others based on relativity, sometimes we're accurate with our comparisons and other times we're not.  but the truth of the matter is that there is no absolutic "truth" within the individual, its just a matter of him relating experiences and coming to false conclusions every. single. time. but we need to come to these conclusions in order to navigate our individual consiousnesses. that is the core of being seperated from oneness and being a human and having this individual consious experience.  Relativity is what allows this experience to be possible.  if you dont have any relativity or relationship you dont have seperation.  i would call this rant wise  :gangsta:
