I gave some dude a hug

No idea why. I was at work and it was hectically busy. Called to 3 spots at once and no possible way to be there. So I went to the first and there was a gentleman who was looking at a Kindle Fire. Talked to him briefly about them and he cracked a joke about how anyone with a beard doesn't know how to work these. Then he looked up and saw I have a beard. Then he laughed and said maybe its anyone over 30 and with a beard. Relayed some info about a permanent marker on women's garments and needing something to get it out. Told him nope, sorry. Took my time BSing with him. Asked his name, extended my hand and then when he reached for it pulled him in for a hug. No reason I can think of and I dont know why I was moved to. Right at the front of the store with pressing demands around me. Left him with a smile and moved on to the next customer who was more than patient with me. The whole event went really smooth all things considered, no upset customers and I got to give some stranger a random hug

On another note, do you find interactions with strangers much more alive then with someone you've known for a while? I've been walking through a park everyday and basically each day I meet someone new with their dog. The dogs are always friendly, and I talk to the person for a few minutes, wish them well, and leave knowing I probably won't see them again and that's okay. I find ultimately the people closer to me, the conversations are more stale and unspontaneous. Whats up with that?

I dunno, I see those sorts of interactions going two ways. The first is that small talk happens because that's the default map when there is no established map. The second is that small talk gets moved beyond and it's on to exploring uncharted territory.

I find with some people it never seems to move past the small talk even if you've known them for a while and see them all the time.

I really don't like being cynical. Everyone is just trying their best to get by. Maybe I shouldn't judge so fast...

Up to you. I don't judge people for who they are but I am cynical of the whole human plight. I think it says more about what humanity is for me than any individual person. I find us a mess on the whole.

Yeah... It's quite a shame.
Hypothetical question: would you be cheesed if you found out no one else is actually suffering, and everyone is just joking around and there isn't a real problem?
Sometimes I think like that, like, maybe everyone else is a Buddha, and I'm the last dude dicking around in Samsara.

A lot of times. I was actually quite sure of it at some point, but they seem to keep pretending. Oh well..

I think that is a healthy awareness right there. To see positives all around you. Applying such a mindset to your lifestyle will take action without you even knowing when you are aware.

Well I'm not a Buddha so at the least you've got me for company.
And suffering (in myself and others) has become much lighter for me over time. I used to take it in as if it were real. Now I see it as empty (of intrinsic existence) and a fleeting phenomena not worth touching at all. So if I came to find out that no one was actually suffering then I would at least be happy I wasn't gobbling up yet another illusion.

True that. The other day I was feeling really miserable. I tried meditating, going for a walk, listening to music, praying. Still felt like shit. Then I was like, fuck it, first noble truth man- Life is suffering. Right when I accepted that the suffering vanished.
