Any guesses as to what this Mushroom is?
    #15793897 - 02/11/12 05:00 PM (3 months, 16 days ago)

Just found it on a walk. Don't have any idea what it is. Would be cool if you could try and identify it .

After closer smelling inspection, it smells like dead fish ass.

patience.. There. I don't want to pull it up out of the ground. I wouldn't be able to do a proper identification form....

Pretty hard to identify a mushroom without seeing the gills and stem... I'll guess Entoloma, but I am wrong.

What kind of mushroom do you have in your profile pic?

The stem and gills are a creamy white. Tan I guess. Very fleshy.

Coprinopsis I think, maybe Coprinellus, not really sure.  Definately not Coprinus, those have an annulus like C. comatus.

Se this for more info.

?
That is bigger than any coprinus I am aware of. Also how can you see a ring? What coprinus has an umbo?

 Thanks byrain. I was mocking the interchangeability of species in those genera. Coprinoid keys give me a minor headache!

Also, f*** that pluteus! It's got no business growing out of soil!

I listen to you a lot, sweet cheeks! But u r wrong about coprinus picaceus. My collection was on conifer AND the stem wasn't bulbous. It just looks that way cuz that pic blows. Besides kuo says-  Species with an ozonium (an orange mat of fibers around the stem base) belong in Coprinellus, as do species with mica-like granules on the cap surface and species that are only partially deliquescent.

Volvopluteus gloiocephalus or a Pluteus sp., is there a volva at the base of the stem (Membranous sac)?  It can largely disappear in age for V. gloiocephalus and I can't make out enough detail in your pictures.

Must be a Pluteus in that case.

Pluteus are edible but are not very good unless you cook them with some awesome sauce or something to add flavor.

They have very little texture also.
