 Enlightened Egos

When going about my daily activities, I usually check with myself and think, "How would an enlightened person act in this given situation?" or, "Am I doing what an enlightened person would do?"
Or if I'm high on something, I'll think, "What would a Buddha do while high on Acid?"
I almost think of it as a new type of WWJD. 
I'm constantly trying to go beyond my ego, yet I always check my ego using my ego. It's a weird way it works.  I try and stop it a lot because I realize it's my ego just wanting something new to obtain, and really, it's no different than my ego wanting a new computer or a new car.
I guess though at the same time I'm not opposed to something that can promote good values, but a lot of time, I feel that this just gets in the way.
Just something I wanted to share that I notice I do a lot. How do your egos play tricks on you?

It seems like a positive influence, but it could be disruptive if you start making your choices based around what another person may do that isn't you, and not being yourself. It could eventually become a false sense that you are doing this not for yourself anymore, but to mimic someone else s actions that aren't yours. It could turn into more of a pretend fantasy, which is an escape from what you are and your thoughts, which goes against what an enlighten person would suggest by being in the now.
If you want to do something and get the urge you should think more if it is really want you want to do by seeing if it fits in with your life at that time, and not if it fits into what someone elses life was.
You wear clothes, but I doubt you ask if you should turn to robes, and give everything up, because it is what a lot of known enlighten people have worn.
It is your life, and you have to make decisions that will benefit you the most, and make you the most comfortable doing them afterwards.

Good observation. I do the same shit all the time. I find just noticing hypocrisy seems to bring about an end to it, and it works itself out. Then you'll just act how you're suppose to act. Also, you may want to consider how everything already has Buddha nature, so a tree out your window swaying in the breeze is exactly how Buddha would act.

Laughing is perhaps one way to judge your spiritual development. If you find yourself giggling at everything under the sun, then your mind is penetrating and allowing things to be born anew.
Odin, god of chaos, jokesters and merry pranksters, buddhas, ravens, jesters, raving poets, etc. These types are usually depicted as knowing a little extra slice of experience on the pie graph. Sure you can know the universe or love the mystery, but can you laugh at the joke?

It's all based on me thinking I'm somehow better than other people because of my past experiences I consider "spiritual."
a common egoic trip of mine:
"well you've done mushrooms and SPIRITUAL drugs. people who drink are just low-life morons."
This single thought has distanced me from lots of old friends simply because they choose to drink.The critical ego is a sickening thought process. I've found the key is to LET GO of everything my ego is against. To simply accept the world as it is, in it's totality.

Letting go and accepting is a key virtue! For me I used to do the same, whether viewing myself as higher or lower on a chain of egotistical reasons and then I began to see things in a third perspective. We are all who we are, no need for ones mind to work in a negative manner against a fellow traveler.
