Cultivation of Clavaria Zollingeri - Magenta coral fungi

I find this coral fungi breathtakingly beautiful:
 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clavaria_zollingeri
I did a search here but didn't come up with much. Does anyone know of any domesticated grows of this fungi? Aside from a natural encounter--which I have never had--does anyone know where I might be able to get some spores to try myself? I would be extremely interested in growing this fungi just for its beauty.

Thanks. I doubt he kept spores from so many months ago. It would be nice, though!

You never know... Maybe he dropped a piece on agar... I would! Never hurts to try...
I bet a good bounty in-season would be your best bet!

I hope that you will let us know if/when you do start it.
I am trying an eyelash cup fungus. I understand the desire to try these things.
Good luck,

I would contact a few of the older hands... If you gave workman a he might be able to point you in the right direction... Hell, he might have some spores laying around, that he hasnt got around to working on for taxonomy/sporeworks, that he could trade/spare/cut you a syringe off of... Never know with this hobby! Someone has your culture!

Thanks, guys. I'll post some of these guys. If I do get it going, you can bet I'll do an extensive write up. It's always kind of hard to get something you don't know much about to fruit, though, but when you do a lot of time a domesticated culture is a good looking, almost perfect, one like in the picture. If I could find an outdoor fruiting, I could measure the substrate's pH and note what it is specifically. I looked around but didn't find that kind of specific information in the descriptions, but I could kind of guess by researching similar species. Anyway, I sort of doubt I'll ever manage to get there, but it sure would be awesome to get one growing! I can just imagine giving a bouquet of one to my girlfriend instead of roses; she'd know how special that was and go crazy.

By the way, I was thinking of this beautiful mushroom because for the last month I've been faced with a picture of it because it is Taylor Lockwood's 2011 calendar November photo, and what a beautiful shot he has there, as usual. I recommend his calendars for anyone who adores looking at beautiful mushrooms! Now if he can just do a 2012 calendar with beautiful chicks and shrooms posing together! LOL Just kidding about that one - well, sort of...

Blue, I have found this species in my travels here in upstate NY. I would be willing to harvest and ship one to you this summer/fall if you are still interested and have had no luck elsewhere. Feel free to let me know. [image] http://files.shroomery.org/files/12-006/884914206-Coral.jpg
