97 people charged in Colorado’s largest drug bust February 9, 2012 - MSNBC
DENVER -- Seventy-five people were arrested and 18 more were being sought Thursday in what Colorado authorities described as the largest drug bust in the state’s history.
In a series of raids conducted by more than 500 agents and officers, authorities seized 11 weapons, including assault rifles and handguns, $415,140 in cash, and more 26,000 grams of cocaine, 1,000 grams of crack and a pound of methamphetamine.
Among those arrested were 25 alleged gang members and associates who have also been charged in connection with 16 violent "take-over" bank robberies in Colorado, authorities said.
Twelve children were removed from homes where agents say drugs, guns and cash were stored.
Several of those arrested made their first court appearances Thursday and were advised of their rights. They will be arraigned next week.
The arrests are a culmination of four separate crime investigations that agents noticed were overlapping with the common goal of drug trafficking.
“Today our streets are safer, and the drug trade in Colorado has suffered a massive blow,” U.S. Attorney John Wlash said in a press release.
He called the arrests the largest drug bust in Colorado history.

Doesn't sound like that big of a drug bust still....was that even $1 million of drugs wholesale? I know the street value is probably over 1 but this still seems like not too much

You can always buy stock in prisons, lol. Profiting off of that, fuck them. This fucking world is not civilized despite every attempt from the media to make it seem so, especially in the States.

1000 * 500 500000
If the average agent spent a week on this investigation, that would cost over a half million dollars in salaries alone. The true cost is at least twice that.
Quote:
Also whats the going rate for 97 prison cells
40000 * 97 3880000
$3,880,000 per year.
Quote:
and 10 foster kids for x amount of time?
10 * 20 * 365 73000
$73,000 per year.
Total cost of this operation, if the average offender gets 5 years:
1000000 + 3880000 * 5 + 73000 * 5 20765000
$20,765,000.00
Your tax dollars, hard at work putting humans into boxes.

YES!!! But they have families and are fighting for the right and good, it's justified in the eyes of the public no matter what figures you put up.
But you like a lawyer, and I trust your inputs, seems like you do your research or maybe you have a background in law.

It wouldn't be so profitable if they didn't spend mad tax dollars putting people into boxes, for either side. I just wish it wasn't my hard earned money funding it (I'm sure there were some federal charges somewhere).
But yeah 26+ keys of coke is off the streets, meanwhile a few more tons have just crossed the border, and a vacuum has been created for somebody else to make a come up, so they can eventually waste more tax dollars.

No, my background is mostly in computer hacking and mushroom taxonomy.

Thanks for the numbers AR. I think they might be a little conservative though. So much money involved that people never realize

I hate to say it but These are the type of people the pigs should be spending their time on. I don't see what everyone's so pissed about.

Well, tough to translate the pig speak here. Could just mean they were in the same house, responsibly stored out of reach of the kids, could mean they were out in the open endangering the children. Tough to tell without being there.
It takes a long time and a lot of money to for the cops to work up from the one person busted with a dime bag up to the guys with 20kilos. Lots of narcing on friends involved I'm sure

Just because you made the bust and stole all the drugs and claimed their value as yours, doesn't mean you are going to get any value off them.
Cops don't sell the drugs, just cost tax payers. They are hurting the economy.

Yes they are very conservative. There are so many costs that are not factored in to those numbers.

It is great that they got some bank robbers. Not that I like banks all that much.
But much of this effort was against drug smugglers. Seems like they lumped the bank robbers in with them to give them all a bad name.
We should arrest robbers and leave the victimless crimes unprosecuted. Unfortunately, this operation puts them all in the same cell. And the drug criminals will receive more prison time than the real criminals.
People who grow lots of pot plants, even if they are all very small, get more time than rapists and child molesters. Justice is elusive.

How do you know they are scum? All 97 of them? I find that hard to believe.
What if someone called you a scum, just because you had some controlled substances in your house?
