A question for fellow guitarists / musicians in general (in relation to psychedelics)

Alright, so I've been VERY curious about this for some time, and I'm even more curious to see if anyone can relate / debate it.
Long story short, I play guitar, I've played for about 10 years now, and I have a deep love for the instrument. I also have a deep love for LSD lol, and mixing the two has proven to be an amazing experience, time after time. So here's my comment / question....
When I take acid, I can play like no other. My emotions just seem to pour out of my finger tips. The slight tremor from acid proves to be a little difficult when it comes to hitting some of the faster licks, but for the most part, I'm as accurate, soulful, and percise sounding as I am when I'm sober, and most likely, even more so. Simply put.... LSD + Guitar = bliss.
Now, on the other hand.... when I eat some mushies, I can't play to save my life lol. (I should note that I don't really take low doses, pretty much always 3.5 to 5g's) I'm not even exaggerating when I say that a few times while on boomers, I've essentially completely forgotten how to play guitar at all. I literally look at the 6 strings, watch them turn into 12, and just droll on myself... like how a caveman would look holding an iPod or something.
Can anyone else relate to this? Can anyone claim the opposite effects? I suppose this question applies to any musicians in general that like to play while tripping.
*** On a two related notes, drummers.... is it easy to stay on beat while tripping... and two, does anyone jam on lower doses of boomers? If I get some quality answers within the next hour-ish, I may decide to eat just a gram and try playing, but I tend to think low dose mushroom trips are kind of a waste... unless of course its a catalyst for some sweet guitar playing.
Thanks in advance!!

I find to have a more clear head when on LSD if that makes any sense? Like I have better motor skills on LSD than mushrooms. I find doing even the most mundane tasks on mushrooms can be near impossible at higher doses. Very disorienting stuff.

I have difficulty playing the guitar on acid and shrooms. Difficulty focusing on it. Whenever I’ve tried to play I just seem to end up sitting there staring at it and wondering all sorts of things about it.

I can play on either, although sometimes the waves from shrooms will interfere. I actually think I play better on 2ci, I swear it effects muscle memory.

whats up guys? drummer here... Mushies always made me feel like amateur or something (not saying im a pro or anything). I could play without much problem keeping tempo but it felt raw, organic and very unplanned. Sparratic I guess. Most of the time I would feel limited to a tribal vibe but I think that's more of a drum thing. Mushies + Musical Instruments = Loads of Fun...
LSD on the other hand made my playing feel very calculated and logical. I felt like i could plan what I was going to play before I played it much unlike mushrooms. Big 4 way Interdependence improvement... and funny enough tempo seemed like a very easy way to balance the time lapse felt on acid. In other words, Playing made sense of time. also i experienced much more emotional content and thicker emotional reactions to the sounds created when playing on lsd
Both are very very fun. Personally i like jamming on lsd better than mushies but I wouldn't pass on an opportunity to mush jam.
Also if you live somewhere in the sticks and the closest neighbors are far away, JAM OUTSIDE. SOOOOOOOOO NICE. I think the trees likes the sound

Very well put. I was really hoping for the input of a dummer. If I could play anything other than guitar it'd be the drums. And as a matter of fact, I DO live pretty much out in the boondocks. Some nights in the summer, Ill drag my 40w blue jr. outside, turn up the volume reverb real high, and just play some bitter sweet summer blues for hours. Closest neighbor is about 1/4 mile, havent had a complaint yet lol

This is what happens to me. I can feel the creative potential running through my brain, but it becomes a physical issue. I can't seem to get it out of me, I guess. Same thing happens with drawing. I get the urge to draw, but I can't get it out of me. It's like there's something I'm trying to achieve, and there's a block in the way.
I've played guitar for something like 4 years now, and I have trouble playing on any drug. I've got to give it a go on acid again, though. Maybe next time I dose alone. Lately, I've been dosing with a group of three other people, so maybe that's part of the issue.

I find guitar a great form of creative expression on drugs, new perspective for different and new musical ideas.

I can testify to this. Mushies give me an immense appreciation for the music I do have, but my own place as a musician seems all but maxed out. DMT was the same way. I even had a repeating thought loop - "musician, compose thyself!" Lol

Yeah, it sure works. I've taped hundreds of hours of psychedelic guitar practice - there are incredible songs buried in there, tripping or not. What I found most interesting was that listening to it while straight invoked the same head spaces I was in while playing. Had to work on that for a while until I was sitting out on the porch just bending microtones and suddenly my Oregon river landscape looked like ancient Chinese drawings. Whoot!
Mushrooms only improve my coordination and dexterity, plus I can sort of step back and watch my hands work, getting better by the intensity of the practice session. A couple hours into the trip, though, earlier it isn't really possible, although music SOUNDS wonderful.
Plus - oh yeah - BIG PLUS - my creativity in general goes through the roof - so I'm improving very complicated songs that I've never heard before while shroomed. Just thought I'd toss that in.

A little bit of variation for you guys: playing a brass instrument (e.g. trumpet) while stoned or shrooming is an incredibly strange but beautiful experience because you become intensely aware that your vibrating lips are causing this huge resonance and amplification and causing the entire instrument to vibrate. Its really incredible. You can just play slow pretty long tones and its this emotional beautiful experience. But its also kind of hard to concentrate on actually playing a "real song" rather than just improvising and going with the resonance.
So strange how different it is from sober playing.

I find it harder to play on mushrooms, sort of like on alcohol. It affects my motor skills too much. There's a lot more emotion in the playing though, so slowly strumming or picking some chords "sounds better".
The real question to ask would be; does it actually sound better? Do you actually play better? For that, you'd need a sober spectator, capable of understanding the emotional and technical aspects of guitar playing. If you don't have that, it's all subjective.

Similarly to the brass instrument thing, when I am on shrooms I usually grab my classical guitar, and just play the same notes over and over, sometimes resting my head on the body of the guitar to feel the waves of resonance washing over my self. It is wonderful.
Can you imagine what it would be like to play a didgeridoo in that state?

I love playing guitar on acid.. As I sit I feel each note as of ahead of time, I know where to take my playing, I have more options. My fingers will feel really light and almost not there as the connection between the fretboard and my brain become subliminal. No longer am I thinking of what to play, I just sit back and let it flow. This is one of the truest forms of self-expression in my opinion. The sounds someone makes on an instrument in the midst of the throws of psychedelia cOme from the sould directly. Also been getting into DJing and producing psy/ambient/dub music. Synthesizers and turntables are a whole new ball game, and amazing their selves.

Hey, exactly! What about making electronic music while tripping? Is it impossible given the technical skill required? Do you basically just make one sound and stone on that for hours, or can you actually make something comprehensive?

This is what I was gonna say. It really feels like the music flows with creativity. I tried playing on LSD on Sunday and I was amazed at how much of a trance it can put you in. It just happens, almost without effort. I find that it comes out better if you just let it flow without trying too hard. Simply wonderful.
