For woodworking those would be great, I dont know how you would use em to pick locks
Well I picked one lock so far with a couple of those. But then again the lock was a POS and there was nothing but a bunch of damn 8 tracks in there anyway.

I spose picking is an art though
last week I was getting fuel in the tow truck and this old guy in a state police uniform walked up to me and asked for a screw driver, I asked what I could do to help and he said his gas cap key didnt make it back on his key ring. I went to the truck, grabbed a ring of keys and jiggled the lock for him the man was shocked at how fast it was to open the thing. he tried to pay me $60, half of what the locksmith was gonna charge. I talked him down to a cup of coffee... totally scammed that fool
$60 is half of what locksmiths in your area charge!? That's ridiculously steep unless they have to drive 50+ miles to get there.
everyone charges a service fee, typically it's $45-$90 just to drive out and then it's what ever the they charge a labor fee for doing the work. since I'm in the boonies every call is a long drive

Maybe those where worth something. What where you getting into? Don't be robbin' people
I would like to get into locked dumpsters. They can keep their financial trade secrets, i want to get at computers and stuff thrown away. Tresspass my ass, its trash!
I only know of one bump key thats super easy to make and works on numerous locks, it was mentioned in a book. The others seem more like whats typically called "Jigglers"

What kind of locks are on the dumpsters? Usually just a Master padlock and most of those use a wafer system. Very easy to open. If you could get the model # it would make it even easier. You would be fuckin surprised at how easy most locks are to bypass surreptitiously. Most bike locks can be opened using a pen cap

a key of any sort has to be for the keyway, a bump key for a kwikset wont work in a schlage or a medeco

both of these statements are untrue. cheap locks tend to be easy to pick for beginners, experience with the more secure locks is a must an some require a few special tools in addition to the added knowledge of the lock's design. most bike locks have moved away from the barrel key and are using a better design that's harder to pick
of course the 'blue wrench' still gets through all locks faster than picking

Pretty sure both statements aren't untrue. How many Medeco's or Best's do you see on houses? 90% of locks are crap Schlage's or Kwickset's. And if the front door is hard to pick, just move to the backdoor and most of the time stupid people keep the 3 or 4 pin lock on their sliding door. I've installed $400 locks in houses that have a big ass dog door. I still stand by the bike lock statement. Most people don't have a kryptonite lock on their bikes.

90% is a pretty bold statement given that more and more people are moving away from keyed entry and more and more sales of things like sidebar locks are being sold. that, and you've not changed 90% of the locks out there
and no, most people dont have a krypronite, kryptonite was the one that was exposed as so easy to pick with a bic pen which is why they changed. with bike locks we have to account for a hundred different makers with a hundred styles ranging from a padlock on a chain to the u lock, combination locks and keyed locks

I stand by the 90% for house locks. I would go higher for keyed entry locks. 99% if not higher of American homes uses a key lock with no sidebar. 90% prob use a crappy kwickset or schlage. You are right, I have not changed 90% of the locks in the US, but I am using a common skill known as estimation. How many people do you know that have a sidebar door lock or a non-key entry system? I'm a locksmith, been to one of the top locksmithing schools in the country, bonded, and been doing it for a few years, and I know of a couple of people, but thats it and those people keep high value items behind those doors. The reason has been stated above. High security locks on peoples homes are stupid unless you have no windows anywhere on the first floor. This is not a hobby for me. So, not really a bold statement, and educated estimate would be a more accurate statement.

Senor, sorry I got away from your original question. This is all you need. Anything more would be for specialty picking or just for showing off. http://www.google.com/products/catalog?client=safari&rls=en&q=lock+picks&oe=UTF-8&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=shop&cid=157805629695710399&sa=X&ei=ZwYzT5yLI7CosALk_8niBg&ved=0CJkBEPMCMAI#ps-sellers I will post a pic of my pick set when I get home. It's a combination of a bunch of different sets that I have used in the past, and to be honest I use only a couple of my picks anymore. No need for it. Picking is not really used anymore in real world applications. It's cheaper to break a small window in your house and replace it yourself than to call an expensive ass locksmith.

A guy I knew used to make picks out of hacksaw blades using a dremel. Apparently certain hacksaw blades are made of spring steel except for the teeth. For him it was purely for the entertainment/puzzle aspect, but I'm sure you don't want to have anything like that on you if you ever get searched by police for some reason.

while I agree that locks are a false sens of security it doesnt stop people from buying into it, your 'estimation' is just guess work, low end homes I've worked in typically have low end locks, many high end homes have low end locks as well such as the schalge but there's been quite a few homes where I've seen locks like Abloy, Medeco and the sidebar schlages because people want to believe these things protect their homes. the rest of the world knows that a lock makes no difference. I've astonished store owners with how fast I can remove their $200 evva with an $8 pair of vice grips or bypass the door completely by removing the glass from the frames
