yes actually. have a credit card with a high limit and remember the numbers. that way when you call a bondsmen you can bail yourself out. and dont skimp on a lawyer, there is a reason some lawyers are expensive, but i think thats obvious.

jack, each state is different but virtually all have laws allowing employees to detain anyone they believe has stolen merchandise. They are not allowed to shoot at them unless in self defense. They can physically detain the person. If they make a mistake they are liable to be sued for false arrest.
I once personally saw a case in which they caught someone and took him in the back room before calling police. I heard thumps and groans. When he came back out he was not looking very happy but no marks on the face. I don't know if they still do it, i'm sure thats not legal when the person isnt resisting. Something to think about.

I recently found out that if you take out a student loan and made a relatively small amount of money the previous tax year, you can get a grant. I took out a loan worth 5k for the semester and I only have to pay 4k back. Pretty sick deal even if you would be able to afford not taking out a loan in the first place.
I'll probably put anything I don't spend into one of those high interest savings account and use that to start paying the loan off when I get out of school.
Guess that would be pretty obvious to some people, but I'm sure some don't know.
Oh also a trick I learned at self check outs while buying bulk items. Fill a grocery bag till you're just gonna put one more item in, the bulk item. Place the item on the scale/scanner thing with some of it hanging off the scale and it won't register the full weight.(higher risk/larger payoff if you straight up hold the bag lightly on the scale) Just don't let the scale with your grocery bag register the weight before you remove that bag of groceries.
I saw some people suggesting dumpster diving...It's not bad, but lots of people do it around here and the cops are all over it. I've got a friend who got taken to prison for a few days. Pretty fucked up the cops/store would rather see a starving homeless person go to jail instead of letting them take food that costs the company money to dispose of.
Where's the reasoning there? The store could be held liable if the diver gets injured of something stupid like that?

There is the old watch your car racket. It works best in a zone where they give tickets for overtime parking. You offer to wipe off the chalk mark after the meter maid comes by. $2 a car is cheap and if the fine is hefty enough, it might be worth $5 or $10. Same gag with metered spaces. They often have a max of 2 or 3 hours that you can put money in so people have to leave work to put coins in the meter. You offer to do this for them. What you do is watch for the enforcement car to come and quickly put a little change in each one you are tending. If they see you there every day they will come to trust you. Its not big money but what the heck. If you watch 20 cars at $5 a pop that adds up

Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do...
Free laser printer toner/color cartridges, Staples and Office Max have decent return policies, so browse until you find a printer with your same toner, buy it, swap the toner with your empty one and return.
Discounts for car tires.. Discount Tire has a corporate policy to price match, so make up a fake invoice (just Google “invoice template” in Google) for a competing tire company, name it “Franks Tires” or something. Give yourself a real nice deal on your tires and Discount Tire will usually match the price, if they don’t I’ve heard they always will if you threaten to “write corporate a formal complaint” If you want the scheme bullet proof throw your friend’s phone number on the invoice in case they call to verify so he can act like a “Franks Tire associate”.
If you get really good a creating fake invoices this can be used in a wide variety of businesses that have “price match” policies.. But it is easiest at Discount Tire because there main competitors are locally owned tire shops so they don’t expect a professional looking invoice.
GoodWill scheme…. Every day one of the colored tags is half-off so it’s easy to swap tags in the dressing room and get whatever you want half off. Additionally, they accept returns for store credit, so if you find something expensive that you like you can buy it, and carefully swap the tags onto some old junk appliance you find by the dumpster and return that for store credit. They have really vague categories on their tags so it’s easy to get away with.
When I was in high school we would shove tissue paper up in the coin return on the soda machine, when people didn’t get any change back they would usually just kick the machine and move on. After lunch we would go and harvest the coins. But that was back when sodas were $0.75, people probably don’t get any change back these days..
Lately I have been putting up flyers in retirement communities saying that im looking for old “ten-speed style bicycles”. These old folks haven’t thought about the old bike sitting in the garage for over 30yrs so they usually jump at the idea of selling it to me for cheap.. I can usually buy them for $20 and re-sell to the hipsters’ downtown for $150. I even picked up a rare Bianchi for 30 bucks and flipped it for $300 on CL… You have to have some knowlege about old bikes though because most of what you look at will be junk. it’s possible to grab a $1000 bike for nearly nothing because the owner just doesn’t know what they have, I’ve not been so lucky but It happens..
