To a degree sure, but in my opinion, there are too many variables for a small esoteric group to control the population as a whole. Doesn't mean they won't try though. Have you ever read Edward Bernays' "Propaganda"?

Well Bernays is known as the father of modern public relations, he took his uncles work(Freud) and developed a field of science in the manipulation of the public. Check out this statement from the book:
"The conscious and intelligent manipulation of the organized habits and opinions of the masses is an important element in democratic society. Those who manipulate this unseen mechanism of society constitute an invisible government which is the true ruling power of our country. ...We are governed, our minds are molded, our tastes formed, our ideas suggested, largely by men we have never heard of. This is a logical result of the way in which our democratic society is organized. Vast numbers of human beings must cooperate in this manner if they are to live together as a smoothly functioning society. ...In almost every act of our daily lives, whether in the sphere of politics or business, in our social conduct or our ethical thinking, we are dominated by the relatively small number of persons...who understand the mental processes and social patterns of the masses. It is they who pull the wires which control the public mind."
Crazy to think that it was written in 1928.

I think social manipulation of the masses started waaaaaaaaaay before 1928 IMO. But yeah I'll check out that book.

Goes back at least as far as the Egyptians and convincing people to live in Cities to do all the work whilst you live like a King.
Do what the Amish do. They have the right idea. Life might not be easy without all the mod cons but I think I can wipe my own arse just fine, thankyou.
Gimme the internet though. That's one vice I'm not going to give up easily.

I remember flipping through a catalog catering to Amish goods a few years ago.
If they can make a gas powered refrigerator, they can make up gas powered internets.
As far as the computer goes, you're probably out of luck.

Having spent a bit of time on both sides of the street, it is my opinion that some conspiracies are indeed grounded in facts while others are grounded in non-facts.
If you were to group all the conspiracies and toss them into one huge hole, the final product would be a cesspool of sewage.
Conspiracy forums often attract the paranoid, as well as the narcissistic personalities as well.
Groups that cater to conspiracy theorists are Cults in my opinion.
Everyone lives in a cult. It is called a culture.
Once someone develops an idea or theology which conflicts with the consensus reality of their cult, their cult ridicules and drive that person away. The displaced cult member then searches for another a group of like minded people and joins that cult.
It is my observation that most conspiracy theory groups tend to self-implode over time simply because of system overload.

All it really needs is you be critical of both the current paradigm you live in with its enforced schooling systyem, and contact mass meda and politcal propaganda, AND the critiques of this by groups that the latter call "conspiracy theorosts". Please remember what George Carlin reveals in that short video--how any dissent against the established authoritarian reality is "kook" and/or "conspiracy theory".
So how do you feel when you ask questions--which you are entitled to--and get labelled 'conspiracy theorisy', 'kook', 'paranoid', etc. Do you feel that you should shut up and stop asking questions.
Then looking at the conspiracy theories. Are you aware that a strategy of conspiracies--in this case the offical body which has forced you to attend their 'education' institution since you were very little--is to infiltrate groups which question established hierarchical culture? Just please answer this--are you aware that this can happen, and does happen? Or do you think that this idea is 'conspiracy theory'--in thwe derogotary sense of implying it is a kooky idea?
Now if it is so that dissenting groups have been cleverly infiltrated, could it then be that the reason for doing this is to turn people away from them, and to divide and rule dissention?
And example, I recenlty watched this interesting video where the makers said that people like Alex Jones and Dylan Avery divert attention away from possible Zionist involvement in 9/11.

There is an AMAZING documentary by Adam Curtis, called The Century of the Self. It's starts with the story or Bernays and Freud etc.
Well, well worth a watch. One of my favourite documentaries ever. It's in 4 parts (originally aired on British tv)
Here's a link, please watch it if you are at all interested in anything!

That is like asking if are you going to a coffee this morning to someone.
Carlin was amazing, may he rest in peace. Could of seen him in my city shortly before he died but seeing him on HBO his age slowed down his sharpness. Still will always love the guy.
