I've read of a few people that don't like to roll on the first flush, but they do on the 2nd, 3rd, and so on.. Why would you not want to roll your cakes?

like you dont have to roll it, but i would. you should already have verm from making the cakes, so why not just roll them?

Yes. Most people only roll in verm after birthing for the first dunk, and just dunk after each flush, no rolling in verm. Rolling in verm after birthing will just make sure you have plenty of moisture for the bigger first flush.

Always dunk and roll for best performance.

Verm basically acts as a water reservoir. More water=more mushrooms. You can skip the roll procedure but you will have less mushrooms. Don't be nervous. A fully colonized cake is strong and very resistant to contaminants.

What I have read from posts and from trusted cultivators and I think RR said it,(don't quote me on that) is you don't roll in verm after the first flush, as contams can set in. I used to roll in verm after every dunk with no problem, but after reading I decided not to roll after first flush. I have not noticed any difference as far as a better flushes or anything. I figured if people twist and pull there mushrooms off,(which I no longer do) leave pits in the cakes, it is more suseptable for contams if you roll it in verm. Maybe if you sterlize the verm in the oven for 30mins, it would lessen the risk of contams. If im wrong, please correct me, as I am always looking for the right answers.

Of course. No need to roll cakes after 1st flush. Just dunk them. Also, no need to sterilize verm. Fully colonized cakes are strong.

As LeopardMan stated, you don't need to sterilize the verm if your cakes are consolidated, as they are pretty resistent to contams. I was talking about if you rolled in verm after the first flush and your cakes are tore up a little from harvesting. As LeopardMan stated, no need to roll in verm after first flush, just dunk. I think it would be hard to sterilize dry vermiculite in the microwave, as the heat would not generate evenly. I would reccomend if you ever need to sterilize dry verm, do it in the oven. I believe 350 degrees for 30mins is sufice.
