 'Everything is very odd here': Festival bad acid tragedy

"MUM, I have taken some very bad acid and everything is very odd here."
These were some of the last words that 34-year-old Daniel Buccianti, of Epping, Melbourne, spoke to his mother, Adriana, from the Rainbow Serpent Festival in Beaufort, Victoria
A few hours later, in the early hours of Sunday morning, he was dead.
A Victoria Police spokeswoman said Mr Buccianti's death was not believed to be suspicious.
"Drugs took my son," Ms Buccianti said. "He rang here that Saturday night at 6.15pm … and said, 'Mum, I have taken some very bad acid.'
"I said, 'Daniel don't worry, you need to get yourself to St John hospital really quickly.' "
Mr Buccianti asked his mother to pick him up but 40 minutes later he called again to say he was fine.
On Sunday morning, police informed Ms Buccianti of her son's death.
Rural Ambulance spokeswoman Gabrielle Degenhardt said there was nothing paramedics could do for Mr Buccianti.
"Around 1.30am, the man was deceased when we arrived," she said.
A 25-year-old also attending the music festival was taken to the Ballarat Base Hospital in a serious condition on Saturday night, after suffering a cardiac arrest in connection with a drug overdose.
Ms Buccianti said she held the festival organisers responsible for her son's death.
"They should be shut down," she said.
"If the police didn’t find any drugs at the festival then they were not looking hard enough."
Meanwhile, members of the small but tight-knit Buccianti family gathered at the Epping residence yesterday.
Candles burnt in front of Mr Buccianti's photo at a makeshift altar in the kitchen.
Just 10 days ago, the family was celebrating his birthday.
Ms Buccianti said her son was hard-working, likeable but sometimes cheeky.
A single mother, she said Daniel had been her strength. "My life has changed forever," she said.
Rainbow Serpent Festival organisers could not be contacted last night.

Agreed, but this is an emotional mother talking, they all blame someone else, way more easy than to accept their son's decision.
And only one isolated incident?
This is probably not "acid" fault, there would have been more incident (if the drug was sold there, multiple people buy it, etc).
Even if the guy bought something elsewhere and brought it up, it would probably affected other people around/his friends, etc...

Did it say he took blotter? Maybe he called it acid but actually took pcp?

my guess lies with bromo or he took other drugs.. I really can't see many drugs fitting on a blotter. Now, a tainted sugar cube on the other hand....

I was at the festival, i think dehydration and over heating would of greatly contributed. It was very hot at Rainbow Serpent as it was held outside of Beaufort, in the desert. With the combination of drugs and alcohol, im not surprised someone died. I was going through 600ml of water an hour and even then i had really bad sun stroke and generally felt shit due to the extreme weather.

Is it just me, or if he dosed hard enough to die, he would not be able to have a coherent conversation with his mother, right? And then said he was fine 40 minutes later? He'd be tripping too hard to know what fine is. And I would actually feel sorry for his mother if she wasn't so ignorant as to blame the festival organizers for her sons bad decisions.

There is nothing to this story expect a grieving mother lashing out. I can sympathize with that but there are really no details about what the guy took or what actually killed him...

I was at rhinofest in little old vermont last summer, woke up on the last day and went to find my friend. found him belly up mouth open passed the fuck out in a chair, in a campsite across the way' from ours. we walk back to our campsite to begin packing. We look up at one point to commotion happening. in the campsite next to were i found him there was now an ambulance and paramedics... RIP john doe, cardiac arrest, bad heart plus good time

They're going by what his mom is saying she heard in a phone call.
It was very hot outside. the guy could have been dehydrated.
Could have had an underlying condition.
Maybe it really was LSD, he just had a bad trip cause he was sick and about to die anyway?
