will this be harder than i imagine?
    #15750611 - 02/02/12 08:17 AM (1 year, 4 months ago)

between the top drawer and the top base of the dresser is a 3-4 inch gap with one slanted support board going through the middle. this will allow me enough space to add another board underneath, over the top drawer and under the base. constructing this will leave me a nice hiding spot for the gun.

now, to get to the gun...

im going to completely remove the top base and re attach it, but this go around its going to have a latch on the back side allowing it to move at a 90 degree angle. im also going to look into lock options as far as keeping the base locked into the dresser itself.

Doesn't seem too hard, but I think you're making it more complex than it has to be to access the hidden compartment. I'd remove the panel going horizontally along the top/front of the dresser and re-mount it with some strong magnets or drill a couple of holes with a close fit to some dowels. That way you can just grab the panel at the ends, pull it off, and reach in. You wouldn't have to take everything off the top of the dresser/dump it on the floor when you lift the top in a hurry.

Also, make the front board with a hardwood or metal apply a wood grain laminate and you have a blunt weapon too.

That sounds like the best idea to me. Keep it simpler that way. I do think the magnets might be a little smoother than the dowels though.

the dresser ended up being a piece of shit that used staples and old cheap wood. i pretty much fucked it up. we still use it, but not to house a gun.

i did find a better spot to keep it thats out of sight, but easy to access.
