We have outgrown the current hosting plan which we use for image uploads and file attachments, and it's time for us to move on to a bigger and better server. In order to ease the transition and make sure that no files are lost during the transfer, we have temporarily disabled upload functionality until everything is moved over. The process should take less than a week and complete around February 5th. During this time you still have access to all your pictures and attachments, you just can't add new ones. If you want to post images, http://imgur.com/ is an excellent free image hosting site. After transferring a file, you can copy the text in the "BBCode (message boards & forums)" field and paste it into a post to include your image. Sorry for the inconvenience but it ensures we'll be able to provide uninterrupted hosting for the foreseeable future. Thanks everyone for your patience and understanding!

No unfortunately this is not going to help with performance, but it will take care of an important time-sensitive issue which we need to address before we can focus on site speed. So I guess you could say it's a step in the right direction.

does this mean when we transfer over our max upload amount will be increased? I can't remember how much i have left but i have a feeling it won't be to long and ill have to start deleting photo's i don't need anymore

No, nothing should change from an end-user perspective. The whole purpose for the switch is just so we don't have to disable uploads and attachments. Our new setup is actually going to cost us ~45 times(!) more than we currently pay for file hosting, so if you want additional storage space buy a supporter account ya bum.

I'm not paying any of the fees.
I'm just saying that the administration paying 45-times more seems a bit crazy to me.
I was moreso expressing my disbelief rather than my displeasure.
It affects me in no way, shape, or form.
I am just stunned by the progression in fees incurred. If X amount of money has allowed the site to grow X much, I would expect that paying 2X would allow growth to roughly double. I wouldn't expect that costs would rise from X to 45X in one fell swoop.

You're right, I was totally bitching about the Shroomery getting better, not about the provider charging Ythan exponentially more than before. And I started all the negativity. And I have never supported the Shroomery in any way shape or form 
We were expressing our shock at the crazy rates he has to pay, and if anything we are more grateful for the Shroomery now than before. I just don't get where you got the negativity from.

I think it's funny that the ability to delete photos from our accounts has also been disabled. i just tried to lighted my load on the system by deleting a bunch of old pics and found that the option wasn't there.
seems a bit counter productive...

you deleting a few old pics is not going to change anything, maybe if everyone deleted 1/2 of everything they had ever uploaded it would make a difference.
we were pretty much at max picture capacity, but it's all been taken care of and everything should be up and working again soon; no need to delete anything.

Reminds me of back when I used to work at the Circle K. We used to give out free matches, then we stopped. I dunno, some management decision to save money or sell more lighters or something. I got sick of telling people we didn't have matches anymore, so I got 4 pieces of printer paper, and taped them together on the front door at eyeball height to make one big sign that said in bold block letters "SORRY, WE NO LONGER HAVE FREE MATCHES. EMPLOYEES RESERVE THE RIGHT TO OPENLY MOCK ANYONE WHO DISREGARDS THIS SIGN".
Just to be clear, it was a typical convenience store with glass doors, and now with my big-ass sign in place, you could no longer see into the store through the front door as you approached. It took up the entire fucking top panel.
Got about three comments from people who thought the sign was funny. Got about the normal amount asking for free matches. I wish I could believe they were just trolling me, but based on the reactions I'd get when I started openly mocking them, they really weren't. People are just that oblivious. Makes me wonder what kind of stuff I'm looking right past on a daily basis.
Anyway it's a bit of a case of closing the barn door after the horses are out but I think I'll implement your suggestion now anyway. Still got a little time to go. The transfer is well underway and I'm receiving regular updates. Looks like we're transferring about 13GB every 4 - 5 hours with a total of roughly 225GB left to go.
Oh and whoever commented on the delete button being unavailable... I appreciate the irony but it's for technical reasons. If your image was already transferred over to the new server, and then you deleted it, it would be gone from your list of uploads but it would still be present on the new server when we switch over, and there would be no way for you to directly remove it. Anyway, we're making this switch so people don't have to delete anything if they don't want to.

the stickies are often not related to site issues, so they become just bleh content.
a mass  to all users well before anything site related is changed/updated might be more effective in delivering site issue news than a global sticky that just blends in with the others and becomes part of the background. people probably check their pm box more often, and this way would ensure that every user was informed and cut down on confusion.

I was actually trying to point out that while people seem to think that taxing the rich more is bipartisan and the province of the Democratic party, both the White House and the Senate have been controlled more by Republicans in the last 30 years than by Democrats. This would seem to implicate both Democrats and Republicans but especially Republicans.. see 1981-1988 (Republican White House and Senate) and 2001-2007 (Republican White House, Senate, and House) . Hey thanks a lot for your support! I've been editing the main post to reflect the most current information, so I don't really have a whole lot to add... according to the latest update from about three hours ago, they are 92% complete, so the transfer should be done today. If everything goes absolutely perfectly I may be able to get us up and running later tonight, but more realistically I'm going to have to do some testing and probably fix a few things so I'm shooting for tomorrow. Either way, we're in the home stretch.

Just got an e-mail that the transfer completed successfully. I'll be testing the setup today and hopefully I'll have uploads re-enabled by this evening.

The transfer is well underway and I'm receiving regular updates. Looks like we're transferring about 13GB every 4 - 5 hours with a total of roughly 225GB left to go.
Oh and whoever commented on the delete button being unavailable... I appreciate the irony but it's for technical reasons. If your image was already transferred over to the new server, and then you deleted it, it would be gone from your list of uploads but it would still be present on the new server when we switch over, and there would be no way for you to directly remove it. Anyway, we're making this switch so people don't have to delete anything if they don't want to.
