White Beech Fruiting Questions
    #15698842 - 01/21/12 06:51 PM (12 years, 1 month ago)

(this is a reprint.  The initial position was in an
old thread that I realized no one was going to check)

Hey,

My White Beech blocks are at 2 months and look like they are ready to fruit.

Here is the block:

Front: Back:

The blocks are thoroughly consolidated, and very hard.
They are less colonized in some spots than others, but
they are 100%, and them some, and then some more. ;0)

Do they look as ready as they seem?

Any White Beech fruiting comments appreciated.

I also wanted to ask which they prefer:

- string the bag off
- strip off the top half of the bag
- cut off the bag at the level of the sub
- cut the bag so as to leave a collar above the sub
(like Stamets suggests for King Oysters)

Thanks all,

JD

Hey JD,

my experience is limited to one bag and a couple of jars, but these ones always pinned best without opening. I guess they need almost maximum humidity, while high CO2 and low light levels seem to be no obstacle for pinning. Of course later they develop long stems and tiny caps without FAE, though as with king oyster the stems are as good as the caps. They have an enormous shelf life BTW.

Thanks for taking the time Carsten.

My outdoor GH is set to support Namekos right now, with
the fogger running all the time.  I will have to see
how this species likes this.  It is cool enough right now.
I hope that I see pins soon.

Take care,

JD

keep as posted javadog. ill be keeping an eye on this one. what temps are you trying to fruit it at and have you decided what you will do with the bag once you put it in the fruiting conditions?

My temps are inevitably the temps in coastal southern California.

I have gotten King Oysters and Namekos, so it is cold enough,
especially this time of year.

They have gotten down to where we had a frost for a few
mornings, and as high as the low seventies.

I will certainly post results.

Take care,

JD
