I made 4 bags of white sorghum so I could transfer some Reishi jars. I'm splitting 1 jar between 2 bags.
I prepared the sorghum the same way as last time: soak overnight, 5 minute boil. Each bags gets 4 L of grain and a Tyvek sleeve for a filter. I sterilized the bags for 2 hours @ 15 PSI.
After the sterilization cycle I turn off the stove and let the PC cool completely before moving. The PC I'm using will hold a vacuum so I don't have to worry about it pulling in dirty air from the kitchen. Once cool I move the PC in front of the flow hood, wipe it down with alcohol, then open the valve. The bags come out perfect with a strong vacuum seal.

Here are the bags after the g2g transfers, all shook up and ready to grow.

The next 8 jars will be used for sawdust bags. Got a bit of work ahead of me this evening to make 16 bags.

I finished up a couple of batches of bags, the goal is to make 80 this week. Here are the first sawdust blocks, 20% and 30% bran.

All bags weigh 5 pounds, the spawn bags are 4L, the sub bags are 5L. I'm making a few different kinds:
Spawn (4L x 16) 100% white sorghum 100% rye
Substrate (5L x 64) 5%,20%,30% bran 5%,20%,50%,100% soyhulls

28 down, 52 to go...

Nice grobo! Its awesome how you document your grows. It'll be fun to watch the results come in. Any reason why you only did %5 bran for the shiitake? I feel like maybe %5bran & %5grain could be a good option. Or %10 & %10.
Keep it up

Didn't want to over supplement the Shiitake 75 and end up with mutant blobs. Forgot to mention that all blocks were inoculated with 10% grain spawn.
Here is the full recipe for a 3 kg block:
850g softwood fuel pellets 2L water 50g wheat bran OR soyhulls 50g powdered gypsum
200g grain spawn

Thank you for the sub recipe. Would you alter it at all if I use hard wood pellets?

It's the same recipe either way. Hardwood sawdust is preferred over soft. My last source stopped carrying it so I switched to softwood pellets.
Remember that the water needs to be fine tuned to the particular sawdust you are using. When I start working with a new type of sawdust I'll slowly add water and mix until I get it hydrated to the level I like, I make a note of how much water was used so I can add the proper amount on the subsequent batches.
Make Shiitake sawdust on the dry side, no water should drip out when you squeeze a handful.

Chef, It's best to let the bags cool to room temperature before you take them out. You can remove them once the gauge reads 0 PSI, but be sure to let them cool to under 30°C before inoculating.
If they're allowed to cool slowly while weighed down in the PC you'll get compressed bags with a strong vacuum seal. You can turn the element back on every once in a while when they are cooling to slow the process down even more.
If you remove the bags early be sure to place them in front of a running flow hood because they won't be sealed and will let in contaminants as they cool.

Ya I usually take them out as soon as pressure drops and immediately wrap them in plastic wrap to keep them safe for the ride home from work.

QFT. As they cool, they will draw air in. Cooling in front of a hood is a very good idea. (or in the PC)
Excellent write-up Grobo.

I started fruiting some King Oyster and Lion's Mane blocks on March 9. Today I added another dozen King Oyster.
The Lion's Mane have the tops of the bags taped down. There are two holes on top of each bag for fruiting.
The King Oyster blocks have been surface scratched to stimulate pinning. The fresh surface way sprayed with water, then the bags were sealed with a clothespin. This high humidity environment will stimulate pins to form on the top of the block and not on the sides or bottom.
Fruiting Conditions: Temperature 16°C CO2 1000 PPM Max Humidity 85-95% Light 11,000 Lumens, 6500K, 12/12
