Yeah, but I suppose you're putting your primary plants directly under the light, so the adjacent bananas won't catch enough to really do them much benefit. But it definitely won't hurt.

They are easy to grow in containers. I bought some Musa ice cream banana plants and grew them in a large container. I live in Michigan and easily did this. One good thing about them is that they don't rot in standing water. I would water them heavily and wait for them to dry and repeat. I would bring them inside during the winter and they never died. I used no grow lights and only had them by a window. Another I had I grew in my basement and it received very little light at all. I was mainly trying to ge them to survive until I could get them outside during the summer.
They also grow tons of pups or small plants that grow from the main root ball. Most of these I gave away to friends because of space restrictions.

Nice! What did you feed them and did you change the food when the plants were indoors?

I didn't fertilize them while inside, with the exception of some of the slow release fertilizer pellets that didn't dissolve druing the summer. When they are inside they pretty much go into a state of hibernation where they will grow very slowly, the less light they received the slower they grew. But they never died. They are alot hardier and more resilient than you would think.
I made sure I cared for them just enough to keep them from dying during the winter months. I even had a six foot tall plant that was growing in a two gallon planter. The only reason I finally transplanted it to another pot was because it would constantly fall over whenever the wind blew.

The wife and I just ordered a dwarf banana tree. I hope I can get it to fruit. I live in zone 4. I'm guessing we will need extra lights and a heater.

Mine seem to like lots of Miracle Grow. The banana "hands" are unfolding nicely. The fruits are small, but seem to be developing steadily. The earliest fruits are a little bigger now and have moved from dark green to light green. And I can feel more baby banana fruit-lettes inside the flower at the end of the stalk. Since we totally were not expecting any fruit from plants in containers, it's super-exciting to have gotten this far.
On a side note, our tomatoes, onions, and eggplants are moving right along too. The bell peppers always seem to be the last to get moving, but I have confidence! Hooray for 80 degree temps in January!

I am up in Jersey and my mom grow a few banana trees outside when its warm enough. We then cut them up, wrap in Brown paper bags and tape, then take them into a cool, dark area for the winter. they continue to grow a little during the winter time. My dad's aunt was given a few trees by my mom and she has small bananas that grow during the summer.... We never had any fruits on ours though. My grandpop also has grew them before he died and they would easily reach 15+ feet in the summer. I have a pic of him standing with them but they never had any fruit. I bought my grandparents house and I will see what I can do with the 3 trees that are in the basement this year... They are small though but I will see what I can do with it although I never grew any myself!

Yeah, today it was a very chilly 72 degrees F. But in our defense we had a strong wind from the NE, so I had to wear a sweater on my bike ride on a bridge over the open ocean. It's tough somedays . . .

Lots of MiracleGrow, that seems to have done the trick. Mine are about 6 ft. tall in big pots. I still can't believe little fruits actually formed! The oldest ones are looking riper by the day, and we can't wait to taste them.
