Why the 19th when the other sites are doing it on the 18th?
I would be fine with it if it happened on the same day everyone else was doing it and other related sites did it also, meaning mycotopia, DMT-Nexus, etc... in a concerted effort.
I still kind of have an apathetic view on this. I mean, most people that would take the time to write, email, or call on this issue already know about it. The other people will just wait it out, hit a porn site and be back the next day thinking nothing of it.

A lot of people I have talked to about it don't know the bill is even going through, much less it's implications. I think a blackout will alert people that might otherwise not be aware for whatever reasons. Although I don't know why the OP suggested the 19th instead of the 18th. It could be a time zone thing i guess. But I think it's a good idea.

Yeah if the site shut down by itself that would make a dent but I think ythan should have a little bit of pow-wow pull to maybe get other sites to follow suit. I think that would be the most effective course.
Have some common page that with a link to a site saying "this and that".

Raising our awareness requires you to make us aware. I'm only new here and might have missed something but when I saw all the images removed I was stunned, as SOPA has to do with copyright etc. and they were MY images, no chance of piracy. The only pic you left, my avatar is the only image I 'liberated'. Very confusing and this is the only info I could find on the site regarding what's going on(nothing else in news or announcements sections?)so as I said, I may have missed something obvious to most but if not, epic fail! As it took me so long to work it out (maybe my own stupidity?) I have already deleted all my 'removed' images and won't be bothering to waste time uploading again.
It's not that I don't support the cause, just think shock and awe should not be used to get attention from your "friends" and given my perspective, thats kinda what it seems like.
Feel free to further enlighten me... Peace all

I don't see what blacking out a psychedelic themed website is gonna help accomplish, honestly. Wikipedia was alright cause it get's 25 million hits an hour or some crap, and that was really as far as it needed to go to get advertise this, in my opinion. Especially when it's already losing favor and not gonna pass just like I expected. Anyway, god forbid some kid learns some shroom info here then goes and find some and comes back to ID them and then dies. Then people will be like "see what the government did!". Punching yourself in the face when someone else is trying to punch you in the face isn't the best way to not get hurt, it's actually a terrible way.

that ban (while justified in Ythans mind) was overboard, and the reason behind it petty, and unprofessional.

were any of the other users that I saw bitching about the shroomery blackout banned?
the simple fact is that while Ythan has good ideas, he has sometimes implemented them in ways that have created more work and stress for him( I do not enjoy seeing this), and unnecessary problems for users, and bans(with bullshit reasons assigned to them). Perhaps now that he is 30, his years will begin to show in the next year and he will consider the possible outcomes of his willy-nilly "blackout" and "shroomery points" ideas before he implements them. on that same note I shall try harder not to post in WA&F in such a way that results in an easy banning from the Head Honcho of the Ranch.
I am not posting this in attempt to contest/argue the ban, just to clarify that it was not necessary, a bit overboard, and accomplished nothing(because I actually spent the majority of the "Blackout Ban" in an actual blackout power outage due to the wind and rain storms in my area  ).

It's not even about whether you agree with our stance on the bills or not, it's just, why do you even think you have a right to be pissed if we happen to blank out images for a day? You aren't paying for our service, although you're welcome that we'll be hosting your files 364 days this year for free. I had just spent an hour pulling up our backups and restoring miyagsnuggs's images, because I screwed up and the placeholder went online before the global sticky went up. And then you decided to talk shit and use that as an example of how the whole thing was a bad idea. Fuckin' a. I do not think that I have a self-entitled anything around here. when I use the term "it's your..." I am saying that I agree with what you feel you need/want to do with your site. when I say ranchtits, it is camaraderie.
I just hate to see good ideas implemented in ways that make confusion/minor agitations/potential money loss for other shroomers(if you had not been able to help him recover his images.

And in a year I hope we are all laughing about it. Didn't mean offence to Oregon but I stand by my statement, that was funny, regardless of anything else, but then again I found the ranchtits bit funny too as one of my friends says that to me. All else aside, I was just happy to find out what was happening and trying to politely point out my opinion of the sort of reverse-effectiveness of the situation. The site is here for people, and I'm sort of one of them and without feedback from "customers", it will eventually end up so far up its own arse no one will be able to see it. (Obviously this hasn't happened yet in Shroomery's long life). Also I too know that I am lucky to be able to go to a place like this and not pay a membership and have photos hosted AND GET FEEDBACK FROM HEAD HONCHO directly, etc.

I do not think that too many of us watch the Fox Business
Channel, but on the "Tom Sullivan Show" this evening
Judge Napolitano discusses the SOPA.
He rightly points out that this Act intends to do away
with due process for these specific actions.
"Where will this denial of due process end?"
Also, it requires the Federal Government to do the job
of the content providers. If passed, Federal Agents
would have to handle the processing of complaints.
It is good stuff, if you can find it. (1/2 way thru the show)
