 What happens to Peyton Manning?

So, Colts owner has already said he is going to draft Andrew Luck #1. A) Do you think this is the right move by the Colts and B) What is the fate of Hall of Fame QB, Peyton Manning now? Do they co-exist or do the Colts trade him to help bring in young talent to fill in some holes.
Personally I think they have to take Andrew Luck. I was thinking maybe they would trade the #1 pick and try to get 3-4 picks in this draft and 2-3 in the next. That 5-7 picks + a healthy Peyton Manning could be pretty lethal. I think Peyton has at least 3 years left in him (unless the rumors about him retiring have any footing).
So, with the Colts saying they are taking Luck. What is the fate of Manning? Do they pay him the 30 million dollar roster bonus and all the other money they owe him AND pay a rookie QB some outrageous contract as well and have 20 million a year locked up at the QB spot. -OR- Do you make Luck the immediate starter and ship Manning out to a team like San Francisco who is dying for a QB or maybe even a Dallas (NFC Teams for sure) and in return for Manning you get potentially more than you would have for trading the #1 pick. That's how I see it going down. I see them trading Manning for 5 picks, cash, plus possibly a player or two.
Will be an interesting decision to make for the owner/ GM. The unknown kid or the Hall of Famer with an unknown neck. Make or break decision

I cant believe they did that.... they seem to have a pretty damn good system in place and everyone expected them to blow ass without Peyton.

I can't see them getting rid of Peyton in any way, shape or form. He's been with the Colts for too long. While they could make a deal with picks and players and such, they would absolutely enrage most of Indiana. Its not just the money they pay Peyton, its the morale boost the team gets just from having him around.
Also I've been hearing rumors for at least 5 years now that Peyton would move to a coaching position for the Colts once he retired, don't want to give that up either.
Im hoping they take Luck and keep Peyton to train him. Let Luck be 2nd string for a year or two and learn from one of the best QBs to ever live, then put him in as a kickass young starter

Only problem I see with having both Luck and Manning is the amount of money you then commit to the QB position

Release Manning so they don't have to pay $28 mil bonus, draft Luck, move forward.
Tell Manning thanks for everything. Hopefully have him return the gratitude and publicly say he understands this is the best decision for the Colts organization and that he accepts and respects that.
I don't know what kind of backlash the Colts would experience if they actually did this though, or if Manning would respond positively to it...

I would hate to see him retire and I dont see him doing it. He just put himself through that surgery so that he could play again and he can still play at the top level. To retire would be a shame, he can still win another Superbowl or 2 if he goes to the right team

Manning can still sling the ball with the best of them. I see no need for the Colts to cut him and send him on his way. I think he will remain a Colt for the next 2-4 years with Andrew Luck being groomed as his backup. There is a great advantage to having a Great veteran QB serving as a mentor (Young and Montanna). Fortunately for the Colts, they can only go up from here. They have time to draft new talent and try to rebuild the establishment.
I think that if a near cripple QB like Rapethisburger can play and nearly win a playoff game, then a healthy, motivated Peyton Manning can come back and play with a winning percentage for a few more years to come.

I have no arguments that that would be the ideal situation but it comes down to the salary cap and how much money can you afford to wrap up at 1 single position. And Luck is going to get some outrageous record-setting contract

True, but I don't think Indy is hurting for money right now. They are coming off a run of multiple playoff runs and super bowls and should have a bit of cash stashed aside from their run. this is why I think they have time to groom Luck and keep Peyton on board as well.

You guys are operating on a couple of false assumptions here.
1. Can Peyton still play? Nobody knows this yet. Everybody's assuming Manning will be the same guy who left the field two years ago when there is absolutely no evidence he can even throw the ball. The seriousness of his injury is being greatly overlooked.
2. Luck is not going to get a record-breaking contract. Remember the new CBA has a rookie cap.
That's basically it. Manning will not be a Colt this year though. No way his pride lets him be anyone's backup.

Drafting a QB and making him wait worked incredibly well for the Packers, I don't know why the Colts wouldn't do the same thing unless they are really worried Peyton won't be any good anymore. A young QB could learn an incredible amount sitting behind Manning.

The salary issue and the fact that most people believe Peyton will be 100% or close to that. That and the Colts have tons of other holes in their defense to shore up

No he'll be a free agent, Colts aren't gonna pay that, they already paid him 20 million to rehab last season. Whatever team he chooses will do a new deal, nobody will trade for him.

I just want to see him go to a contender team that's missing a QB.
Like Minnesota. Or Denver. I know it's pipe dreams but I'd like to see Peyton finally be on a team with more outside talent.

It's not his neck it's his throwing arm that has nerve damage. So he's physically fine to play, he just can't throw or grip the ball
