Are you actually in Central Alabama growing Ps. subaeruginosa? 8 years?! Does that mean you had a print for 8 years or you've had a growing organism for 8 years without putting forth fruits? Indoors or outdoors?

yep, in central Alabama. here is a link to the thread when i first started them on agar and transferred to grain.
http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=4&Number=2262210&fpart=&PHPSESSID=
every few years it puts off a few fruits that never quite make it to maturity.
here is a link to the first fruits/aborts it made in 2006
http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=2&Number=6302221&fpart=&PHPSESSID=
and here is a really shitty pic of the one and only fruit it made last year.

i keep it in a flower pot outside all year round and add wood chips when i can. this year i had access to alot of chips so i remixed the whole flower pot and its doing quite well. probably the best its ever done, just no fruits this year, yet.

Looks like Ganoderma mycelium to me, unless that yellow stuff is metabolite formation.

It's metabolite formation. Collecting metabolites is another hobby of mine. Close guess, but a bit more edible;) The tub is only about 26 days old. This picture is a bit more like the true color.

Very nice bfogg, especially the Psilocybe semilanceata LC!
At the moment I have a project going to fruit Psilocybe semilanceata indoors directly from (enriched) grains in glass jars.

What are the yellow drops of liquid that form? I've seen them on one I my seeds and I thought it was a yellow slime mold contam? Yet is looks almost commonplace on those grains.... any idea what that yellow ball of liquid is?

I don't know what its called Vort
I have heard it being referred to as mycellium piss, but I'm sure it has a proper name. Have been told that it is because the myc isn't happy etc........
Don't know if it's endemic with subaeruginosa or not.
I sure would like to know what it is exactly and what's it called.
A much more experienced cultivator may know?

I believe the yellow liquid may be byproducts of the mycelial metabolism.

I think they're just referred to as metabolites (the yellow 'piss'). RR hates it being referred to as 'piss'. lulz
Anonjon says (and I paraphrase) that it's common with all mycelium, especially in response to bacterial infection, cramped spaces and neglect, and low oxygen levels. It can also eat right through aluminum. It's good shit. It can be used to treat contams, but it's not a surefire method.
People don't really fully understand what it is or does, but that could be said for most things, right?

I'll try to keep this going!
I hope, and I'm confident, that I've got some rapidly growing Ovoid myc here using the egg carton technique. The original source material was colonized wood I harvested last spring and have been cultivating with woodchips in an outdoor garden. I placed two chips from outside on the egg carton and kept it moist inside a zip lock. It took a week or so before anything took hold, then another week for some of those "feelers" to start exploring.
After I added a small amount of mono-sodium phosphate and ammonium nitrate to the water (less than 1% solutions), growth absolutely exploded. I don't think the carton has enough of the phosphate or nitrogen nutrients alone.
This is what the experiment looks like after three weeks:

This is two days of growth:

Kinda hard to see, but I accidentally touched the corner and the damaged myc bruised blue:

Since these photos were taken, I have added wood shavings and they are being swarmed with super fuzzy myc. I'll take photos next time.

That myc looks very healthy!
The mycelium grows even better, if the Ammonium is bound to an organic acid. Ammonium tartrate, for example, where the Ammonium is bound to tartaric acid.
Other very useful nutrients are:
- Magnesium Sulfate (300 mg / 1 L )
- Potassium dihydrogen phosphate (300 mg / 1 L )
- Thiamine (Vitamin B1, 10 mg / 1 L )

Added nutrients and such are a good thing when used properly, but only make a big difference when they can be used by the organism. Finding nutrients that are made from or bonded with organics work much better than their chemical counterparts. Just my 2 cents. Awesome pics by the way. Not sure what that slime is, but I would remove it.

Looks like the cyanofibrillosa. The fib mycelium stays fluffy like that, and rarely displays rhizomorphic growth. Could be cyan, but I'm sticking with the cyanofib. Growth looks identical to the tubs I did last year.
Sometimes water can take on a slight yellow color from the wood, but most of the time it's metabolites. Awesome pics everyone.

The slime is actually a little piece of gelatinized starch. I was curious to see if the myc would be interested. The myc did grow into the area underneath, but I can't really tell if it being consumed because the size of the piece swells and shrinks too much with humidity.
As for the nutrients, I'm sure natural sources probably contain micro-nutrients that can help growth. I don't know whether you are using "organic" in the technical sense or the colloquial sense, but I think using inorganic salts to supply PO4, NH4, NO3, SO4 and metal ions makes them immediately available to the organism. Getting these nutrients from organic molecules requires metabolic activity, putrefaction or even symbiotic assistance from other microorganisms.
It seems like the phosphate was the real kick the myc needed in my case.
I've now added organic material (wood and seed husks) to the myc, so I'm not supplementing with nutrients anymore.

I suspect the yellow drops contain riboflavin, which turns solutions bright yellow, even in small amounts and especially when the environment is slightly acidic (as it should be for most fungal growth)

Myc keeps growing. Started with piece of wood from an ovoid find last spring. Threw that into a small outside bed with lots of woodchips, sawdust and creek sand. In January, took some colonized woodchips from the bed and got the myc up and running on egg carton. On Feb 12, I took this picture,

then added wood shavings, seed husks and straw covering the top and sides of the carton. You can see today a lot of growth into and around the new material, especially on the sides:

The ovoid garden outside is about 3x3 ft. It's a mix of hardwoods, mostly maple with some oak, sycamore and pear (the shitty ones that snap if you look at them wrong):

Up close, this small area has the top layer of chips removed so I could see what the myc has been up to over the winter:

So, any tips to help me maximize my chances at getting some pinning this spring? More chips? I'm thinking a few grass seeds in there to get a few blades wouldn't hurt? Maybe?
Also, I went down to the creek to see if the very warm winter could have started the season off. Saw nothing popping. I accidentally kicked up this debris and think this may be some wild ovoid myc, mainly because it's a piece from a known hot spot:

I moved my egg carton colony to an indoor mulch nursery today... I have pictures that I'll upload later on.. but... I first wanted to show you guys what got me really psyched because I am now 100% sure that I've been cultivating Ovoid myc. That little nagging doubt that I've been babying some other species is gone. Plus, this is pretty fucking cool.
In placing the colony into its new home, little pieces fell off here and there. As I was examining some up close, they started staining exactly like the fruiting bodies do. It wasn't just the myc changing color, but the "flesh" of the wood.

Mycelium loves to eat burlap sack apparently.

I am hoping this will be cinctulus mycelium, the soil that the mycelium is colonizing is horse manure and wood shavings.

Weak about the bugs Maynard. Never seen so many millipedes and what not just feasting. Try spraying with a very light soapy water solution on them. I did this on accident once when using the wrong mister bottle, but ended up making most bugs and insects leave it alone. But then again, I've never had a problem like that.
That mycelium growing on the trees, I'm curious, would I happen to know where it came from? Nice to see it growing on more than one species of tree (looks like doug fir and hazel). Enjoy that new camera, and hoping to see some nice pics this fall

I love this thread! I have some myc growing and doing well - let me know if anything looks like it could be done better. Two different tubs with holes poked in for drainage and a little air. Also included a mycelium ID request at the bottom.

I found this growing on the top of a mountain. Any ideas?
WAIT! it is a mountain. Mount Shasta satellite photo. Hee hee.

Thanks for the link UK!
I just found a product in the pet shop called "hemp mat."
It's an absorbent cage-floor inlay for rodent housing made of hemp fibers.
I will try to grow wood lovers on that stuff.
