Multi Purpose Backpacks

I'm looking for a brand of backpack that will stay tight to my body during physical activity. This includes anything from mountain biking, to hiking, to dancing at festivals. I'm looking more for brands than specific items, but the brands must include models with a chest and waist strap that can fit a days worth of food and water+! What brands are out there?

Any company that makes good backpacking backpacks will also offer smaller versions for day hiking...
Here's a list of companies from Shroomism:

Ive had a Bora 80 made by Arcteryx for about 10 years now. I love it. They sell smaller/bigger models too.

I actually just got one! ran about 100 dollars with a 1 year warranty.
I'm not a huge fan of the hydration system so there is tons of room in it.

I got a daypack made by Asolo a few months ago that I really like. I forget the model at the moment. It's got a chest strap, waist band, and lots of compartments. What I really like is it's as roomy as some technical packs but it still looks like a standard daypack. It's got a mesh panel for your back which sort of works. It's also got a little compartment right on top that's good for a GPS or a small pistol. It was about $100. I've been happy with it so far.

I have been using the Patagonia Atacama Pack 28L for multipurpose. Seems to meet my needs for travel, day hikes, scrambling, and ocean sports.
For my next small-mid pack I plan to go with: Osprey or Arc'teryx LEAF.
Also, check out some of the military designed packs. I have a Military Version of the Arc'teryx Bora 80 for my large multi day. It's been one of the best packs I've owned. Worth a look.
