not any form of chalcedony, although it has conchoidal fracture just the same.

I think it's a blue opal, nice lacrymal shape, too.

I thought it would get easier as we got more info but I'm running up against roadblocks at every search now

So we have something that is mostly silica and non-crystalline...
-mostly silica = silicate
-non crystalline = amorphous
Therefore an 'amorphous silicate'....or basically, glass.

Am I learning anything?

edit- Do we possibly have some form of obsidian here?

Well, at least I'm learning something through all of this.  Feel like I'm back in school!

OK, here's something I had lying around.  Unfortunately I think it will be exceptionally easy for even an amateur rock-hound so if you guys think its too easy then sit on it for a bit and let others take a whack.

...or just tell us what it is, I don't really care!

I'm going with halite. Seriously, though I know nothing about mineralogy so I'll defer to passiflora if he wants.

No, and no.  Maybe its trickier then I thought.  If I give any clues I'm sure I'll give it away.
