So this pinning that is happening is not a problem? every pin is showing up at the verm barrier near the top of the jar.

Birth them. If they're still not done, they might not ever be. Keep a close eye on them though.

Dunked, didnt roll to avoid harming the pins.... just a lil sprinkle of verm all the way around. Now they are in fruiting conditions.

The temp is 73-75, humidity stays above 95% and there is an air pump with a hepa filter that runs 8x a day( twice for an hr, and 6 other times for 30 mins. Add the flourecent light and wait I guess.

Keeping my fingers crossed so that I can make this face in a week or two,

since they were already pinning, should i expect to wait a week to see the pins continue to grow?

Did you remove the uncolonized substrate?

I hate those tall jars, but I got stuck when them. Usually the bottoms will eventually finish. Sometimes though they can't colonize it and pinning is a sign that might be the case. So if they've completely stopped colonizing for a week at least and are pinning, you can break off the unfinished parts and rinse until there is nothing but solid white mycelium with no traces of any uncolonized sub on it. I've had to do it few times and never had any contamination problems afterwards though I would expect the chances for contamination are significantly higher than normal.

You can leave them. Some might fall off, but whatever doesn't should still act as healthy pins.

do you think the air pump is enough? or  be fanning every time i mist? the RH has been really steady, only had to mist once thus far.

I couldn't tell you if it's enough. I think you'll have to judge that as you see how your cakes and fruits are turning out but extra fanning can be beneficial most of the time. Misting isn't just a way to maintain the humidity either, it also helps replace the moisture that is inevitably lost from the substrate so it's not bad thing to be misting as long as your not over-saturating things. Supposedly the loss of moisture from the surface is a big pinning trigger so you actually want to mist more and and fan more to get more evaporation from the surface by creating a little instability in the humidity during that time.

I understand that you mean you _handled_ them too much, but I still LOL'd when I read this.  "My jars went bad from bein' looked at wrong!"

I also had a nightmarish time trying to get cakes out of tall half pint jars.  I eventually got them out intact but severely traumatized.  Highly recommend wide mouth jars.

:homerdoh3:
I'll admit I worded that wrong, but in my defense you do have to handle them to look at all their sides.
