Bong Fix
    #15238775 - 10/17/11 04:31 PM (1 year, 7 months ago)

So I was gifted with an expensive yet broken water pipe. It came with the biggest of the glass shards, but after a few attempts using silicone then waterproof glass-adhesive, I dismantled them again. The remaining glass on the bottom of the water "tank" is spiderweb fractured (you can't see from the pics).

So how can I fix this mofucka without spending too much? The mouthpiece/percs are perfect. I was considering carefully removing the rest of the broken glass to leave a 'blank' mouthpipe/percs, then attaching some kind of bagpipe device so it can be parachuted for smoke.

Thoughts? (Also sorry for the shitty phone pics, canon isn't charged)

For how Frankenstein that bong will be after a makeshift repair, you're better off just rigging something else to smoke out of.

Agreed, it would be easier. I think the 3 perc mouthpiece is worth salvaging though. I mean we have GBs, parachutes, pipes, etc. I'd just like to make use of the expensive remnant. Also, pet projects are amusing.

IF you were to salvage it, how would you go about it?

find a way to get that whole bottom piece off and keep the mouthpiece and percs to be fashioned onto a cool liquor bottle or something?

I've had a friend break a piece like that. If you have access to a wet saw you could cut the bottom off and use it as a blunt tube. It would be a dry piece but its either that, or cut off the bottom and find something similar to attach with aquarium cement. (or know a glassblower)

I have fixed a few bongs, down-stems and bowl pieces before; but I wouldn't try and fix this.

I think you would have to use an excessive amount of glass glue to get the seal you wanted, as well as finding the glass to fit perfectly into the exposed area. personally I think you would have better success starting from scratch on a new smoking device, or do what people have suggested above.

Also, The glass-blowers I have met wouldn't bother repairing a broken piece because It is easier to just blow a new one (unless the piece you are fixing is worth hundreds)

...well I'm a glassblower.

And if you cut off the bottom then build up and blew out a new bottom it would be about half the time of a whole new one.

But generally that's lathe work.

from the looks of it he could cut the top from an erlenmeyer flask and attach the parts to it

it's also not hard to find the flasks with ground glass fittings already attached
