Meytal Cohen ~~~AWESOME Female Drummer (playing various covers) * 1
    #15193646 - 10/07/11 08:16 PM (7 months, 18 days ago)

i follow a number of different drum and bass players on Utube... Meytal is easily my favorite female "rock" drummer... one of the things i love about her is she always smiles while playing... i've been studying bass for 25 years now and would love to have her as my drummer... i hope you enjoy...

Meytal Cohen ~~~Talented Female Rock Style Drummer [Re: cateyes]
    #15195587 - 10/08/11 10:20 AM (7 months, 17 days ago)

you never know bro... just keep the faith, she's out there waiting for you to find her...

in the meantime i'll post one more vid of Meytal for shits and giggles... it was the very first video of hers that i watched... i really love the way she just flows... to me, it seemed a number of drummers i've played with in the past had to put a conscious effort into what they were playing... she, on the other hand, just gets it... technically i think she's got it together but what do i know, i play bass...

i know there are a number of people on these boards who think that Dream Theater sucks but i'm posting this anyway...

She can play with me any day, although, I would like to see her play in a live setting.

She obviously has boat loads of talent.

What's her story? How'd she get to be playing in such an awesome studio setting? Not by doing covers on youtube...

well to be honest with you i have yet to visit her website so i don't really know that much about her other then the fact she was born and raised in Israel and moved to los angeles in the hopes of making it on the music scene there... she obviously has some support structure in place in order to just pick up and move here... i agree with you, i would love to see her play live...

thanks for taking the time to check her out and comment on my thread... i really appreciate it...

Meytal Cohen is a hard-hitting versatile drummer based in the Los Angeles area. Born and raised in Ramat-Gan, Israel, Meytal is the youngest in a large family of seven. Meytal graduated from the prestigious Blich High School in Ramat-Gan as a theater major. At the age of 18, Meytal started playing drums and found her passion.

After being released from duty after serving two years in the Israel Defense Force, Meytal relocated to LA and enrolled in the Los Angeles Music Academy to pursue her drumming career. She was professionally trained in drums and percussion by world-class musicians such as: Joe Porcaro, Ralph Humphrey, Michael Shapiro, Aaron Zerfaty, Randy Cook and Joey Heredia. Her fusion of Rock, Funk, Jazz, and Afro-Cuban contribute to her unique style.

Meytal has collaborated, recorded, and performed in tours in the U.S., Australia, South America and Europe with some of the biggest names in the Hollywood music industry: N.E.R.D, Chromeo, Nelly Furtado, Metaphor and more.

Meytal’s drumming has been featured on numerous TV shows and films, including: “Jimmy Kimmel Live Show”, “The Kerrianne Kennerly Show” (Australia), “The Heartbreak Kid” (Ben Stiller) and more.

Currently, Meytal invests a great deal of time and efforts into her online videos project “Meytal”, a project that has been getting massive worldwide exposure and support, and has been viewed by millions of fans and industry professionals all over the world, including Vinnie Paul (Pantera), Shavo Odadjian (System Of A Down), Jonas Akerlund (Music Video Director - Madonna, Beyonce, Lady Gaga and more) to name a few.

Meytal is an official endorsee of Vic Firth, DC California Drum, Soultone Cymbals and Behringer Microphones.

i always appreciated thomas pridgen's hard hitting style... almost all the female drummers i've played with or seen play live lacked skills... this girl did the cover justice and definitely has talent... and she's sexy as fuck! i checked out her Utube page and subscribed so i can keep an eye on her from this point on... thanks for the heads up, i appreciate it!

She playing a Theodore part there, Pridgen wasn't on board until Bedlam.

Did you see the video of a different brunette chick playing the same song impresivelly well?  They're all crutching it a bit with the studio track mix right in there at the same level and I'd like to see some of these chicks play their own shit but I'm thoroughly impressed by their attainment on the instrument, as a drummer myself.  Shit I never worked out the parts for a piece like Aenima like Meytal did, that's a pretty mean part for someone her size. I was stoked when I finally figured out that one section in Eulogy where it's just Danny and Maynard first time through.  The Meytal chick seems to have impeccable mimic ability and basically unshakable time.  But I'd still want to hear some of own material.

But hey, thanks to your thread I've watched a ton of videos today of hot chicks playing drums impressively well.  This chick actually does groove her own shit, she got more of a gospel chop/Pridginy style too :

You might like this girl too, good fusiony style here:

i've been playing/studying bass for 18 years now... tal's style of playing has always impressed me... she's a very melodic player... i saw tal play live with wayne krantz and keith carlock at webster hall in manhatten last year... she's a prodigy, she really hasn't been playing that long in the scheme of things... she's played with MANY heavy musicians already during her short career... i her CD entitled "transformations"(it cost me 25 dollars, it's really not that widely available)... she engineered and produced it herself... i love tal...

Yeah, the album is amazing.  And Carlock's a badass too, the Dan brought him in as their main man, in the past they always mixed it up, not that they're doing much these days.  Talk about a hot bed of great bass playing.  What's your favorite Chuck Rainey part?

well, i have to be honest, i'm not really familiar with his entire career... i am familiar with his work with steely dan and robert palmer though and always looked forward to his monthly columns in bass player magazine when he was part of their staff... as far as my having to choose my favorite rainey contribution i'd have to say either peg, josie and kid charlemagne only because these were the first three "jazz style" songs i ever learned to play... if i were to have to choose between the three of them i would pick kid charlemagne hands down... my bass instructor at the time was a jazzer at heart and she absolutely adored steely dan... sadly she passed away from cancer or i'd probably still be with her today... i've never seen steely dan live, i wish i had... i take lessons from an old jazzer once a month, next time i see him i'll ask him what he thinks about rainey and share his thoughts with you...

Yes, Royal Scam is one of my all time favorite albums!  I played with a bass player who was really into Rainey.  For him it was all about what Rainey didn't play that made him so effective.  I really feel that, the track Haitian Divorce is a great example.  Then there's good ol' Stanley Clarke, who I was also introduced to through Steely Dan.  Then I got into Return to Forever.  I saw them on a reunion tour a few years back.  Stanley Clarke can do things with a stand up bass that I still don't believe are possible.  And he's a top innovator on electric.  The best bassists are the most phenomenal of musicians.
