In addition to being the gentlest on your substrate, cutting also makes less mess in your work area, and once you've seen the nubs turn fuzzy and white again you won't worry about them "rotting".  I did usually pull out any "side pins" when harvesting my last flush, as they often had half or more of their total size jammed between the substrate and container wall.  A gentle scraping with the scissor blade will remove the substrate that's crusted on the outside.

I only cut along the top of the substrate...  Any side-pins below the substrate top are left...  They get "reabsorbed" by the mycelium, IME

I'm gonna have to try using the cutting methods. All my tubs end having amazingly dense flushes and it takes forever and makes a mess pulling them all out. and I end up losing a solid inch of sub. Pulling the easy to ones to make room for my hand sounds great. I will be trying this very soon... in a couple days. Hard to harvest flushes like this

That is a nice flush i must say.
What type are those?
Don't really look like the common cubies, or am i wrong?
