Welp, rain started this week, so did these cyans.
There is usually a Hyphaloma patch that sprouts near these that tell me things are ready to roll. It isn't blossoming yet.
I was by here yesterday and didn't see these, so I gotta work on my mushroom eyes! They obviously have been growing for a few days to a week.

congrats, and I've been out looking a bit too...One major area that used to be heavily watered in SF is no longer and the city is tearing it up and replacing it with native grass...oh well...it got too famous anyway
and no red hypholomas yet either...still have a few areas to check, but it's still too early for unwatered places mostly...another couple of weeks I think
btw, lanlord, that looks like the same early 'iceplant' patch as last year
we have a warm dry spell coming up and maybe some indian summer too, so I'm guessing it won't get really good until the end of the month
this rain definately woke up the mycelium tho...I stuck my finger down there in a couple of places

Just got rain out here in the valley last night. Don't know about finding actives here but I'll be on the hunt for fungi. Is there a non active bay "area" thread?

that's always kind of a tough call with the bay area and actives and edibles..Last year I started the thread and wasn't specific to actives
http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/13313296/page/1
same thing with Curecat in 2008
http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/9118067
The reason (I think) we tried to be all inclusive is because the bay Area isn't really well known for edibles like the PNW is..edibles are mostly up in the hills in the greater bay area and northern california, which is also the southern end of the PNW anyway
so it overlaps quite a bit when making categories. In years past it wasn't a problem to include edibles in the official bay area threads...of course, if anyone wanst to make an edible thread, that would work too

If it makes more sense to do so, I can change actives to edibles or just remove the word altogether.
What says all?
BTW, it is my early iceplant spot. 3rd year in a row it's produced for me. I didn't have too much hope for it as they stopped watering it this year. It was dry and crusty looking, I figured I'd have to wait a few storms before it perked up.

My vote is to include the edibles. I like to see it all in one big thread.

me too
I think it's a bit more casual in the bay area and we're in no hurry, because as most of us know, our season is much longer than most of the PNW...
our season really gets going when Seattle gets it's first major freeze and their season is finished ...it's happened three times in a row in early december now
we peak at Christmas and New years and later
nope....no hurry at all in these here back woods of San Francisco
yep......
PS...look on the bright side...there are advantages and disadvantages to both the bay area and PNW type of environment...in the PNW, the season is shorter and more concentrated and people are forced to give up more time to go hunting before it all ends with the big freeze
we don't have that problem here, but it's more spread out, and occurs randomly at different times, so that's a challenge too...but there's also more time around SF

Finally a new BayArea2011! Been checking for two weeks, and looking in fog drips for 5. I like the inclusive idea too, since I've always got both on my mind. Congratulations on the first pic above! I'll be taking more pics this year with a new camera, and picking far less. I wont be wearing a ghillie suit but I will be doing some serious creeping this year in GGP and nearby. Anxious to see if some of the areas I've cultivated bear fruits.

Today, I chanced the downpours (unsuccessfully) to look for more, I think I found some really cool stuff.
Here are pics of Ps. "cyanofriscosa" pins, and hypha, apprently two different kinds of hypha.
Some of the hypha was fuzzy looking patches, and some was stringy looking.
These were all in an area that was a hotspot of friscosa activity last year. So I'm relatively certain these will grow up to be friscosas as well. But only time will tell. More pics to come as these grow.
