We are all one?

Could it be that we are all one entity, living as multiple individual realities? I am you and you are me, in different bodies, in different worlds?

Yes it could be. The rational mind does not appear to be able to comprehend it, yet it appears as an observation in certain states of mind.

Scientifically, it is possible that all lifeforms have been split off from One Universal Consciousness. Take the planarian, for example.

Planaria are non-parasitic flatworms of the biological family Planariidae, belonging to the order Seriata. Planaria are common to many parts of the world, living in both saltwater and freshwater ponds and rivers. Some species are terrestrial and are found under logs, in or on the soil, and on plants in humid areas.
They exhibit an extraordinary ability to regenerate lost body parts. For example, a planarian split lengthwise or crosswise will regenerate into two separate individuals. Planarians' length ranges from 1 to 20 millimetres (0.04 to 0.8 in),[1] and the body has two eye-spots (also known as ocelli) that can detect the intensity of light. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Planarian
Imagine you are a planarian and you've been sliced into two pieces. Both pieces of you regenerate and you are now two planaria. Both planaria see themself as the original worm and the other as a "new and separate entity". In fact, they are both the same entity with the same memories, just with two separate perspectives.

I don't just think it's possible, I think it's obvious. Though only because words sust as entity are human constructs. Any city, planet, galaxy, universe can be considered a whole entity, and we are all our own individual realities within it, aren't we?

I was thinking the same thing, that it isn't very hard to see a oneness in us. We all breath the same air and what ever makes my heart beat, makes your heart beat as well. It is becoming clearer to me, we all come from the same source, we are provided by the same source, and we might end up going back to the same source. So many questions, very little answers. I just had a strong feeling like anything we say is meaningless. Jesus this sucks.

It was almost touching the stars on mushrooms as everything appeared as a giant hologram right in front of my face, for me.
From there it was meeting people with similar experiences, and you just sort of catch eachother looking to see if it's possible you are the same being, and it seems both of you asking the question is enough. The way the eyes move and stare is a bit of a giveaway.

I don't doubt that we are all part of the same 'data-sphere' we call the material world, but can you present any theories explaining a unity in consciousness ?

...but how are, what for all intents and purposes are encapsulated independent formations of consciousness, connected ?
Is it a dimensional thing ?

Well consider each human life.
Emptiness => shazzam => life
Repeat trillions of times.
But what reality do they all spawn into?

So are you saying that life is a means by which a primarily united conscious pierces into reality giving the impression of separation ?

well first there appears to be two different meanings in this thread.
one meaning of 'all is one', is that all the individual parts contribute to one thing. the idea of a city being one thing. that's not so difficult for the rational mind, yet the rational mind still sees parts of the whole and the whole.
the other meaning is that conveyed by, I think, the hindu concept of Brahman. basically everyone's consciousness comming from the same source, that we are not just parts of a whole, but that all of these parts are actually comming from the same thing.
its this second one that appears as an observation in certain states of mind. I first found out about this before i learned anything about brahman or hinduism or all is one, when I was 14 at a phish concert I was tripping with this girl and all was great until she fell to the ground crying and all she could say was, "we are all one!".
I read an interesting series of trip reports on erowid (sorry can't remember any details that would help me find it) where someone chronicles their experiences which convince them of this version of all is one. Apparently meditation or certain types of meditation can show this.
It is interesting because it appears as an observation, rather than a logical conclusion. This is very interesting because logic is so prone to bias and blindness and dumbness, yet pure observation is just that, an observation. If it was one person observing or one culture or something else that could seem as some nonsensical outlier it would be easy to just say its meaningless but the observation appears over and over again (and is consistent unlike god who has myriad forms or morality which has diverse forms or other observations which vary much more than this 'all is one' thing).

the trouble with the Indian concept of 'Oneness' versus the 'many' is that this CONCEPT OF so-called 'Oneness' became an abstract which then everyone in that belief structure HAD to believe in and follw--the 'Dharma', and those who were not 'understanding ' it--like was believed to be the 'holy men/gurus/yogis'who truly were 'at one--- were thought to be in 'bad karma', and this was part of the caste system process. I am just pointing out the danger of this--it is explained in more depth in the book The Guru Papers: Masks of Authoritarian Power
I prefer the Taoist understanding unity in diversity
Also, in psychedelic healing---say someone has been abused in the past as a child, or has been raped, and this has caused them considerable psychological and physical pain, it has been found that if they have a vision of the event and they BOTH identify/become the victim AND the attacker there happens a deep healing of the trauma! So it is as though you becoming the individual you hate and fear somehow absolves that abusive trauma.

One a small scale we can observe that we are all made from the same building blocks, atoms. I die, my flesh is eaten by maggots, my rotting body becomes salts/sugars/nutrients which are then absorbed by nearby plants and trees. Maggot becomes fly, fly is eaten by spider, bird eats spider, human eats bird, human reproduces, etc. All made from the same, all the same. Following this example, both my consciousness and matter becomes that of a baby human.
The same can be observed on a large scale although I really don't know my physics well enough to describe this in a way that would be easily understood. Just think about it on a cosmic level though. The larger and larger you look out new groupings continue to be observed. The systems effecting each new grouping work together to create more and more systems on ever larger scales effecting larger and larger areas of matter.
lol I that's me trying to explain it scientifically anyway but there's other ways of look at this too

I've always found it interesting that we can simply agree we are all one...
I mean take two people agreeing they are different. Agree the opposite, and it's true, you'll see it in eachother's eyes.

What's going on but your mind, as far as you're concerned?
So if you meet someone who thinks they're you, and you think you're them, then I guess it's true... if you think differently, I guess that's true as well.
