This would be a cool option... Where the journal owner could select users/groups, that could have access to journals... This would be awesome!

I don't see too many people reading them. You could essentially just PM people your journal logs and it would be the same thing.

then you yourself must not use them much cus we (amu) have a steady flow of lurking in our chat journals @ a 1:2 ratio
its hard to plan cool stuff to show off with when everybody knows your plans
IRF! j/k
we have "mailing lists" that gather/notify the "group" already now if said thread could only be viewable by said group only, that would be awesome.

It's been the better part of a year already (holy shit where does the time go?) so I feel I should mention again that I'm not really looking to add any new features. Right now the talk in the admin forum is when we'll finally get the new hardware running, and where to find a replacement for my position.

Its ok guys... He isnt saying that he doesnt want to add it... I feel him wanting to upgrade the server first... Some nights it still take awhile to load/generate pages, but it has gotten way better over the past few months... I was under the impression that the server had been upgraded...
Servers are cheap bro... Get on it!
Just curious Ythan, whats the hardware your pushing now? Im currently building a home all in one esxi host, inside a norco rpc-4224, all server grade, 69tb SAN, and crunches IO's...Cheaply! I can source cheap raid controllers/expanders, and very technical with virtualization, just let me know!
Also, what needs to be upgraded? On my end, it appears to be crunching the page generation...
@13 The shroomery is much too much of an evolved php forum for me to jump in... Im more of a networking/hardware/storage admin...

We have the hardware ready and waiting in our rack, it's the software setup which needs to be adapted for the new environment and made redundant. Know any experienced PHP coders who work for cheap?
We're currently running on two of these, one is the web server and one is the database server:
PowerEdge 2850 2 x Intel Pentium 4 Xeon, 3.6GHz, 2MB Cache, 800MHz FSB 4 GB DDR2 SDRAM 400MHz (4 DIMMs) 4 x 36 GB SCSI Hard Drive (15K RPM) Embedded RAID (ROMB) - PERC4ei Intel Pro 1000MT Copper Gigabit Network Adapter Redundant Power Supply With Dual Cords (No Y Cord) Dell Remote Access Card, 4th Generation for PowerEdge
We'll be replacing those servers once our scripts are done being updated. Instead of having a dedicated web server and a dedicated database server, both systems will be set up so they can serve the entire site independently. We'll be using MySQL master-master replication, distributed memcached, redundant NAS, and we're putting them behind a Barracuda load balancer 340 to handle failover and SSL acceleration:
PowerEdge R610 2 x Intel i7 Xeon E5520, 2.26GHz, 8M Cache, Turbo, HT, 1066MHz Max Mem 32GB Memory (8x4GB), 1066MHz Dual Ranked RDIMMs for 2 Processors, Adv ECC 4 x 146GB 15K RPM Serial-Attach SCSI 6Gbps 2.5in Hotplug Hard Drive PERC 6/i SAS RAID Controller, 2x4 Connectors, Internal, PCIe, 256MB Cache 2 x Two-Port Embedded Broadcom NetXtreme II 5709 Gigabit Ethernet NIC Energy Smart Power Supply, Redundant, 502W iDRAC6 Express

Do you use this box for something else ythan? There is no reason why 14 query's should have the server going like that, specially if the database has its own server... Sorry to be so nosey...

It's because the posts table doesn't fit in RAM, and some of our indexes are suboptimal because of how we shoehorned features in over time. When someone (or some spider) pulls up a 500 page thread from six years back, it hits the disk and locks the site until it's done. We have a TON of handler_read_rnd and handler_read_rnd_next operations when we show status. As part of the move to the new servers I'm profiling all our queries and creating new indexes from scratch, although it shouldn't be important for a while since we'll have plenty of RAM and InnoDB will prevent a single query from locking up the whole site.
