I spent 14 days on the continental divide trail. Not on a bike though. All on foot.

Was working as a backpacking guide for teenagers at that time.

Salvia is like that malicious carnival ride operator, the one that sees you getting sick and not having a good time. But the ride you paid for is 5 minutes long...and you WILL get all 5 minutes.

Worst company I ever worked for. Will never do it again. Would do the job, though, just not with that company.

ya man... company would make or break that..

i was in a lock down facility when i was a teen and we had to (i enjoyed the hell out of it but others not so much) go out into the wilderness for  30 days at a time. i met some of the most real people that were our guides i have ever came across.

when your young and in that position its life changing.

Thats exactly what I was doing.

Watching the kids on graduation days.....better than payday. If I ever end up in a position where I could no longer do what Im doing now. I would go back to that.

ive actually thought about going back and doing that..

from my experience teens in that position actually respond better to people that have been there before.

guess i see it as kinda giving back...

thats cool that you did that man..

If you get on with the right company you can make a livable wage. There is inherent risk you'll always be up against though. Wilderness by nature is a dangerous place to be sometimes.

Lots of time off too.

dangerous yes,

but i see being in such environments all the times opens the mind and ears to new levels.

specially when you have kids around.

im currently in retail (auto industry) time off is a four letter word.

Its pretty damn cool, when you can start feeling the disturbances in the pattern. Most people thought I was crazy when I told them that. But the shit was real.

Usually the danger part isnt with you though. The hazard is always some kid making a dumbass decision that gets themselves hurt. Then theres the whole liability thing. Its not the same game now as it was when I was involved.
