how type of bullet are maded for each caliber?
example: if i buy a 9 mm, could buy hollow point, full metal jacket etc and shoot all with the same pistol?
scuse the stupidity of the question but here in argentina, the people says the only ammo the 9mm shots is full metal jacket.

Probably. Not every possible combination, but many.

Yes.
Hollow points are more expensive than FMJ. If you're target shooting, I'd just get FMJ. If you're going to kill someone/something, go with the hollow points. The bullets are the same size. Hollow points expand on impact to cause more damage, FMJs do not.

lol WOW. that is a stupid question.
YES. you can fire any type of the SAME caliber, whether it be FMJ, HP, SHP or frag, from the same weapon.

just to clear something up, so you dont confuse this guy, FMJ is just as deadly as any other type of round if you are a decent aim. hollow points just turn the insides into hamburger meat instead of ripping a mortal wound into you.

True. A FMJ to the head/heart/other vital organ, will most definitively kill.
I'd just never use hollow points for target practice....unless they were free.
Mmmmm, hamburger.

oh absolutely. hell i havent bought anything besides FMJ in a long while. my 9mm is the only firearm i keep HP in. only because that is my main home defense weapon ATM, and HP are safer when worrying about going through walls.

Most guns will fire both, but some older type semi-auto pistols have a problem with hollow points. 1911's are notorious for not chambering hollow points unless the feed ramp has been polished, though newer guns may not have this problem. I think that all guns of newer designs shouldn't have any problem.

Just did some checking and one source says that it is a myth, though there must have been enough truth to it for the myth to form.
I had this problem a long time ago, and was told about it by some friends. I'll fire some hollow points out of the 1911 that I currently own the next time I go shooting and see how it handles.

Don't go to the range and fire FMJ, otherwise you will have concrete flying downrange and a pissed shop owner. You can tell immediately just by the volume of sound, let alone the concrete richocheting around down range. Also FMJ are great for putting holes in kevlar.

don't forget that some calibers also have jacketed hollow points, sort of the best of both worlds.
check out the ammo selection at cabela's online to get a sense of what might be available in any given size.
Also, jacketed bullets supposedly keep your barrel cleaner by preventing lead deposits from building up.

check on the manufacturer's website. some older guns don"t take new styles of ammo well.

In theory yes, but not all ammo will cycle correctly in some semi auto weapons. Depending on the feed ramp design, some hollow points may hang up and fail to feed. The only way to be sure is to try the ammo you want and see if it cycles.
