Can you compost blunt guts?
    #14868055 - 08/03/11 06:25 PM (3 years, 3 months ago)

I have been working on a compost bin since early spring, my whole family has gotten in on it. A friend wondered if she could add blunt guts (the tobacco inside the cigars she uses to roll 'blunts') to the compost bin; I had no idea how to answer her.
It is plant material, so theoretically it would compost- but would the nicotine (a natural insecticide) slow down the composting process?
I know it would definitely improve the smell of my barrel! LoL
If anyone has done this or knows if it can be done, please chime in! Thanks!

I would assume it would not matter because insects are not what is turning your scraps into compost, bacteria and fungus are

Too much nitrogen. It wouldn't slow down the composting process, it'd just be bad for the plants growing in it later.

I also add a natural enzyme compost enhancer.
As I understood it, insect activity plays a big role in decomposing vegetable matter. If its less important than I understood it to be, I'd be thrilled- I'm tired of all the flies!

the nitrogen isnt a problem but the plants would be. any of the solanaceae
family could be infected with diseases... tomatoes, peppers and potatoes
