What is this world coming to... Mexico drug cartel suspect Acosta 'admits killings' 31 July 2011 - BBC News
Police in Mexico say a suspected cartel leader they arrested on Friday has confessed to ordering the murder of 1,500 people in northern Chihuahua state.
Jose Antonio Acosta Hernandez, 33, is also suspected of masterminding the attack on a US consulate worker and her husband in Ciudad Juarez last year.
Officials say Mr Acosta Hernandez is a key figure in the Juarez cartel.
Juarez is Mexico's most violent city, with more than 3,000 murders in 2010.
The suspect, who is better known as El Diego, is accused of being the leader of the La Linea gang, whose members work as hired killers for the Juarez cartel.
The cartel controls some of the main drug smuggling routes from Ciudad Juarez into the United States.
Police believe El Diego was also behind a car bomb attack which killed four people in the border city, the first such attack in Mexico's spiralling drug-related violence.
Head of Mexico's federal police anti-drug unit Ramon Pequeno said Mr Acosta Hernandez had also admitted to ordering the killing of 15 people, most of them teenagers, at a party in Ciudad Juarez last year.
The Mexican government had offered 15m Mexican pesos ($1,275,000; £778,000) for information leading to his arrest.
US prosecutors said they wanted to try him in the case of the 2010 killing of US consulate employee Lesley Enriquez, her American husband Arthur Redelfs, and the husband of another consular worker, Jorge Alberto Salcedo.
They were shot dead in their car after leaving a social event in the city.
Ms Enriquez, 35, was four months pregnant when she died. The couple's seven-month-old daughter survived the attack and was found crying in the back seat.
Mr Salcedo was killed in a near-simultaneous drive-by shooting as he drove away from the same event.

That is one of the most horrendous things I have heard, but it is just business as usual for criminal organizations created by the US policy of prohibition. If this doesn't start a dialog to immediately end the disastrous War on Drugs nothing will.
Common sense would dictate to any moral sane person that this violence and the policies that started and perpetuates it must stop, but to those in power this is another indication that we are winning the war on drugs, as DEA head Michele Leonhart has previously stated "It may seem contradictory, but the unfortunate level of violence is a sign of success in the fight against drugs."
How many more people must die, how many more lives ruined, addicts created, trillions spent? It's insanity.

It's also a top story in the US and every major news organization across the world, CNN, AP, UPI, Reuters, AFP, etc. Because the article posted is from the BBC means nothing.

That's an understatement if I've ever seen one. I still believe we'll both see change in policy before our time here expires. It might not happen tomorrow, but at some point in time there will be a shift in policy.

Super D I think the policy will maybe change for the worse. As of right now US is trying to label drug cartels in Mexico as terrorist, and if they do this, believe that we will have troops in Mexico before this is all over with. From what I have learned in my substance abuse classes at college, America is trying a last hard push to rid the world of drugs which we know is impossible. The reason they are doing this is because more people are fighting for legalization and the table is falling on our side. So in order to keep drugs illegal they have to prove that they can effectively fight illegal drugs and decrease product and demand. It has been on the table for some time now to label these drug cartel members as terrorist. So lets hope we can get people in congress that will consider our plea for legalization and decriminalization before America tries to do what Thailand is doing and that's to round up every drug addict and force them into treatment. It has being looking good for sometime now for legalization to have it's place in America once again but if the big cooperates in Washington have anything to do with it they would rather lock us all away instead of legalizing. This is my opinion based from what I have read in our Drugs in Society text book from college. Ron Paul 2012

terrorism is definitely the mentality.
i remember turning on nat geo when drugged:marijuana was on. watch for 2 mins before they said that when someone smoked pot, it takes over their nervous system, like a terrorist. i flipped channels instantly in utter disgust that its 2011 and people still believe reefer madness.
its beyond insanity and i am seriously waiting for serenity now.
this guy can go fuck himself if he really thinks killing people is a job

Its hard to be sure who did what with organizations like these cartels.
I'm not much into politics, but if our leaders seriously think prohibition of highly in demand products solves more problems then it causes, then what is the logic like behind everything else they do?
