This has been known since the beginning of last year.
Although sad that I never got to eat there, what Adria has contributed to culinary history, philosophy, technology and technique will only be recognized and appreciated long after he is gone. The mantle of his style of cuisine has been passed on to other chefs and his influence will carry on well into the future.
El Bulli will now become a foundation that will carry on researching techniques and ingredients and will still have a stagiere program there, although not in the same numbers used for the El Bulli the restaurant.
btw: El Bulli has never made an operating profit from the restaurant, for a place that started with Adria in 93 its incredible they were able to keep themselves afloat mostly through book sales and Adria's speaker fees at various events over the years.
If you go to the El Bulli website you can learn more about the foundation and what they plan to turn El Bulli into physically, it's pretty impressive.

What was the wait to eat there before hand? Wasn't the restaurant booked for like a year and a half?
Anyways, tomorrow on No Reservations, Anthony Bourdain is doing an El Bulli special, with another movie, Decoding Ferran Adria airing right before that.

The sheer difficulty of getting reso's, their phone lines open every year in october to accept bookings and they run out of seat the same day in a matter of hours. and yes that bourdain episode is new and should be very interesting.
