Help identifying wild Missouri mushroom.
    #14698197 - 06/30/11 08:13 PM (3 years, 2 months ago)

Hello all, im pretty sure this is a chanterelle, but i want to make sure and have verification from an expert, as should any novice.  thanks for looking yall. oh by the way i dont have much time to write a detailed description, as i am super busy at work. i am doing this to help my cousin out, thanks in advance!

Habitat:
Near woods, backyard in missouri. grows on ground/moss in grass
grow seperately not in a bunch.

Gills:
white. gills, kinda like ridges.

Spore print color:
Very important! working on the spore print color will get back asap.
but im pretty sure all the spores have dropped :frown:

Bruising:
Color that the mushroom bruises, if any. :laugh:oes not bruise at all.

Other information:
Scent: she has told me sweet and kinda fruity.
and ive read that chantrerelles smell like apricots.

: the following pictures are of one of the mushrooms, cut off the stem, and then semi dry pictures. thank you. and sorry again for lack of details. if you need more info i understand. thanks!

all signs point to it being a chantrerelle! and thanks for the lightning fast input!
morels also grow in this same area in the spring!
and they favor similar conditions.
its not a jack o lantern because it grows in the grass, not on logs/wood/tree's and its grows seperately or in small groups of 3. not in tight clusters!
Also it seems to have ridges, not gills like the jack o lantern would.
just want to make sure! thanks!

The false gills, pure white flesh and fruity scent are also good indicators.

Ah! Don't dry 'em! It makes them tough. Refrigerate and eat them fresh or dry saute and freeze.

I fully agree with you. I made the mistake of drying some chanties and they came out tough as leather(almost). I dried them in hopes that I could rehydrate them while on a "hike-in" camping trip. It ruined the whole meal that night. Won't ever make the same mistake again.
