Google earth is the shit. It can kill your battery pretty quick though.
Stupid zombies is a wicked fun game too.
I reccomend a good mp3 downloader too.

amdroid (ampache client for android, to stream music from pc over 3g to phone)
google maps/navigation
portland transit - this app is phenomenal, and i'd suspect there are comparable ones for other cities, but it can gps your location and show your best options for getting to your destination via public transportation. if you live in a city with kick ass public transportation, this kind of app is a must have.
urbanspoon - they could do better with this app, but it's still really handy for discovering good eats.
trillian - instant messaging
scrollable news widget
launcherpro - imo infinitely superior to the stock launcher
imo task killer type apps for android are worthless, the OS manages everything fine without them, there's no real benefit

I love having Pandora. App-killers are nearly useless, it's good to have but try not to make using it a habit.

Handcent SMS - replaces stock (aka crappy) SMS functionality in android. this is an absolute must have for me.
BeyondPod - podcast client. free unless you want to use more that 5 feeds (maybe less.. cant remember). the unlock key is easily torrented though.
Plume - twitter
AndChat - IRC
AndFTP - FTP
IMDB - gone are those moments when you think "What other movie was he in?"
Flixter - movie times
Transdroid - in the rare instance that i need to actually look at my torrent client at home, i can do it with Transdroid.

square - take credit cards with swiper (this is my business phone)
gmail - email
myfitnesspal - i use this to keeep track of my exercise and daily calorie intake. it even has a bar code reader to scan in daily nutrients. i've really fine tuned my diet for vitamins, fat intake, etc using this.

There's a few keyboard replacements out there, but I've really gotten to like this one.
It keeps track of your most used words and habits and will predict your next words for you. Sometimes I can text a few sentences worth of words with one or two keys per word. Fun and fast!
