Brown rice flour cakes VS Rye flour cakes

Just wondering the other day why BRF is used all the time and so is rye seed but never in cakes.... I wondered whether there was a reason behind it but instead of asking i decided to find out myself i realized that one of the factors is off for this experiment and i should be using clones instead of spores but hey see what happens anyway, might get big differences. So i have shot up 6 cakes, 3 BRF, 3 RF with Cambodian cubensis spores from spores101 (thanks for that guys, very quick!)
The cakes were made in the usual way with the PC etc, they are made of 1:1:3 BRF/RF (the RF is actual grain i usually use ground up in a coffee grinder): water : verm. i also added a teaspoon of powdered coffee grounds to each jar. Will be updating as it progresses, this is day one. Heard that rye give more potency to shrooms and other such things so here is a poll to test your hypothesis.

Brown rice flour is used in the pf tek because you can steam sterilise rather than pressure sterilise. other grains require pressure cookers because they harbour bacterial endospores which cant be killd without a pressure cooker.
Potency has nothing to do with substrated, its mostly down to ginetics.

we have the very begging of the mycleium growth, dead even so far with 1 BRF and one RF actually showing this tiny amount.

Here are some pics of the myc growth so far. the first one is BRF the second is RF the middle RF had a contamination in the middle of the myc, green growth. The BRF is being colonized much more quickly so far.

Rye flour cakes have been made by members here many times. Intuitively, one would think you need to pressure cook rye flour cakes, but lots of guys have steamed them with success. Look below at the Similar Threads links for a few. RR

Yeah thanks Ive checked a fair few of them and just wanted to add my results to the mix although they will be completely irrelevant as they are not from a cloned shroom

due to the temperature of the room being coldish they are taking a while to colonize. Here is the latest photo, the BRF are on top and killing the RF on the bottom in speed.

okay so the RF cakes have gone into hyper drive and developed some very rhizomorphic mycelium, caught up with the BRF and are now dead even with only 2-3square cm on the bottom each

I've got 5 quarts in a bag colonizing that I used rye flour in. One thing that I can tell so far is that it does seem to be more sitcky, and it doesnt look like it will stay together as a cake, it looks like it will fall apart. Guess only time will tell. Good luck with yours!

birthed the first 2 cakes that have colonized, 1 RF and 1 BRF. They both got dunked and were fine. The RF cakes seem to be colonizing the layer of dry vermiculite on the top but the BRF are not....

I also have 12 cakes made out of rye flour colonizing at the time. I PCd them and inoculated with some colonized agar wedges. They do seem to be a little slower than BRF cakes. I inoculated on June 2nd and none of them seems to be fully colonized so far. However, I must also add that I use 350 mL jars (3/4 pint).

I've always used rye flour. It's cheap and in stock at the supermarket. When I first started making cakes brown rice flour was not available to buy anywhere local.

This is my third time growing mush... I'm still pretty new to this, but here's my experience.. my first grow was pf tek with brown rice flour.... I grew golden teacher.. the outcome was okay, mushrooms weren't potent at all, pretty much bunk... my second grow I mixed brf with a handful of whole rye grains in my substrate.. outcome was really good... my third grow was also brf with rye grains but I also dissolved a little bit of natural honey in the water I use to make my vermiculite based pf tek substrate... and the mushies were down right amazing... it's all in the food you make for them... the better the "food"the better the outcome so far I'm finding.... and now that I wrote all of this out I see that this post is almost 2000 days old.. so I apologize for that .this is my first reply as I cannot figure out how to post...lol

So instead of learning how to make a thread, you bumped a 5 year old thread to tell us that you haven't learned that genetics determines potency more than food source?
