that third pic is really cool! I love the rhizo look of the sub myc.
That pot is looking good, I don't think the moss should be a problem, the sub myc (from what I've seen) usually either colonizes whatever is in its way, or just learns to live side by side with it.
I think the fact you can take stems and regrow them on cardboard really shows how strong the myc can be!

hope to see more pics of your other substrates as they start to colonize. good luck & keep it up.

The first of a number of sub:mushroom2: beds that I'm planning.

:regularshroom: HARD WOOD V'S SOFT WOOD  :1up:

Had some bricks which as it turns out make nice edges for building up height on a shroom bed

Red Gum Chips and Pine Shavings.
Chips from hardware store, Pine from feedstore.

Sub Myc on Cardboard
Stems from last hunt of the season a month ago

Cardbord on top of Myc

Covered with 2-3 inches of each wood

3 layers of thick cardboard to retain moisture.
Gave it all a good soaking.

:Awemush: :cookiemonster:  :goat:

With care and attention I should be picking from this bed next winter.:tongue2:
Going to work out an automated spraying system for this and other beds over summer.

A lot has been happening.
2 more new beds:mushroom2::mushroom2:

This bed utilizes a wasted bit of land behind a shade house.
I laid down a level pad of rich mix

A few layers of cardboard.

Surrounded the bed with a few layers of pavers for water retention and neatness.

Emptied my most successful tub that fruited last season, the one from the beginning of this thread.

Spread her all over the cardboard, added  a pine layer on top of the myc etc.... then added the main mix of gum bark, soil and leaf debris.
There is large gum to the left of the bed which is constantly dropping leaves and bark etc all of which will go on this bed.

I have since covered this bed with cardboard to retain moisture.
:amanita2::amanita2::amanita2:

Have been throwing leftover outdoor substrate mixes into this spot for a few months

Myc on redgum chips
:fonda:

Spread it over the surface of the bed, cased it with pine shavings and planted some strawberries.

:amanita2::amanita2::amanita2:

Some new tubs
1, paper pulp, jarrah sawdust, potting mix
2, Bits of everything I had
3, Ply shavings, potting mix, dried weeds
4, jarrah sawdust, potting mix and dried weeds

1, 2, 3, 4,

All have one of these in them
:fonda:
:amanita2::amanita2::amanita2:

Have used cow and kangaroo poo and potting mix in this one

Tub started from myc on cardboard
:biggrin:

Spread the contents over the top and covered in soaked paperbark

:amanita2::amanita2::amanita2:

Update one a collection of tubs that I concocted a few months ago

1. 2. 3. 4. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. 10. 11, :fonda:

1,  Redgum chips and potting mix
2,  Gum bark and potting mix
3,  Pine shavings and potting mix
4,  Decomposing pine and potting mix, cardboard side
4,  Decomposing pine and potting mix, exposed side
5,  Cardboard and potting mix
6,  Pine and Xanthorea(grass tree)
7,  Local gum bark
8,  Balingup pine bark and dead grass
9,  Xanthorea and Balingup dirt
10, Dyed wood chips
11, Bits of everything

I am really happy with these.
All the ones that were mixes or have potting mix seem to have taken well, the ones that were just strait substrate like pine on its own,
wood chips on their own haven't taken or are very slow.
Cardboard with slate and bricks on top have aided immensely with myc growth and moisture retention.

All happily shaded and moist
:psychsplit:

Do you pasteurize (or sterilize) the substrates you use for colonization (wood, poo, etc?).  The reason I ask is that otherwise, it would be difficult to tell whether your rotting wood (for example) was growing the species of mycelium that you thought it was.

I've got an outdoor bed of ps. cyans that I'm waiting to fruit (still unseasonably warm/dry) and earlier in the year it sprouted another species.

Sorry if you mentioned doing this, in which case I missed it.

Andymc, seen your cyan barrow, luvly thing, nice and mobile.
Hope it fruits luvly for you.

I haven't  sterilized or pasteurized any outdoor substrates, from the research I've done it suggests that wood lovers have a symbiotic relationship with organisms etc in wood and soil, this encourages growth and fruiting.

The first tub I made:biggrin:

Could have been a fluke but she fruited luvly. No pasteurization or sterilization.

When I collect or buy substrate I check thoroughly for contams and other myc, doesn't mean there isn't any though, Spores etc....

Subaeruginosa myc is easily recognizable, most of the tubs have been started from myc on cardboard from stems of shrooms I've collected from the wild.

Odds are out of the 30ish or so tubs that their are a few that have other species in them maybe, time will tell.

Am beginning a furore into subaeruginosa inside, link in sig.
I will be pasteurizing mostly for this and will try some sterilization, though most of what I've read suggests pasteurize only.

Hey, thanks everyone for your interest in the subaeruginosa tubs and beds that I’m cultivating. :hatsoff::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

Thinking now that this should have been a grow log etc….It may be better in the Grow Log bit, and not in the cultivation forum.
If someone wants to move it, it's cool by me as it does seem a bit odd amongst all the cube chatter.

It’s been a few months since I updated this, in that time I have been concentrating on cultivating indoor cultures and grain jars of subaeruginosa.
As well as embarking on the endlessness of indoor cubensis cultivation.
INDOOR SUBAERUGINOSA, I will be updating that thread soon also.

Its mid summer here atm, 40  degree celsius temperatures, the tubs and beds get rewet a few times a week.
Cardboard layers topped by slate and paving bricks are aiding in retaining moisture in the tubs.

A few times over the last few months I have checked each tub and bed to ensure that the mycelium has taken to the substrate it was planted in.
Most have proven quite successful and some have failed to colonize.

When the photo upload is going again I will post a full description with lots of pics:biggrin:

Hey UK, many have done really well, the ones that have failed were mostly due to my inexperience and lack of FAE.
