Is it normal for the mash to get "fizzy" as its heating up? Its not hot, yet- maybe 80-90F, But its fizzing- like freshly poured soda.
It didnt start until I put the heat on.
When (what temp) do you put the top of the PC on?

damn thats crazy i must of gotten high and deleted all my moonshine distillation pictures. I had hella pics of distilling moonshine and absinthe.

I saw the wormwood pic n wondered if you did absinthe. Id like to try making some... Ive got a bottle of Lucid. I tried 1 sip, and am scared to try more!
Ive got my sour mash on right now. Im hoping it comes out better tonight...

Its normal for the mash to fizz up usually happens an hour or so after i mix the batch. It will kinda look like foam from the head of a beer. Cracked corn is fine works the same maybe a lil slower tho, havent used it myself so i cant really say. I put the lid on my PC and hook up the condenser coil right off the bat and heat it up slow. usually takes between 90 to 120 mins to start dripping. Good luck!!! I have to post some pics of my new still easy to make and inexpensive but def an improvement.

Find a beer brewing supply store they have them cheap, i paid 5 dollars!! Get the one for distilled spirits only tho and get the plastic test jar too, only 2 or 3 bucks.

You the man!! I solved another issue, too. Where my worm comes out of the flake stand? was leaking and the cooling water was following the worm and dripping into my collection jar. A gob of silly puddy and Im back in business!

That was an issue for me too, got sick of baby sitting the drip ,so i used some RTV sealer and its water proof now. So now i just get good ole corn whiskey !!! good stuff bro keep it up!

Well, for my first attempt, its damn good. Not close to courtin' whiskey , or even sippin '. But not so bad as to call it spittin' . Maybe swillin' or fightin' whiskey, lol.

So I've followed this tek and have a question..
Should I be agitating or mixing my mash at all over the days of fermentation?
I fear not enough surface area is gonna be reacting with the liquid. Or that air may be trapped with in =\
I could be wrong =] just curious!!!
