So I recently came into possession of a pretty nice bong. It's a PHX with 2 peculators, it's 20 inches tall and is a pretty smooth hitting tube.
The problem, however, is that the glass is broken on the rim of the female piece of the downstem. As shown here:
Now I'm looking for an efficient, somewhat longer term, relatively cheap way to get it rather air tight and sturdy. I got it with a down-stem so I don't need to spend any cash on that.
As of now I've rigged it up with rubber-bands, as shown below. It's pretty air tight and hits nicely, but I have no doubt it could be much better.
Again, I'm not looking to spend much money. If I wanted to I could get it blown and have it be fixed for roughly $100 or so, but I'm not interested at all in spending anywhere near that amount of money.
I've had success doing that exact kind of fix using modeling clay. You can get colorful kids style modeling clay that doesn't ever really harden, that way you can occasionally snug it back up and reform it as needed or take it apart for cleaning and then re-do the clay.
Alternatively you could drill out the hole a bit and put a new slider/downstep/bowl piece in there. You can usually get pretty nice ones for $20 or less, in a variety of diameters.
