Hi any tips on growing this species from seed? how long usually before a plant grown from seeds will flower? Also, I know the flowers produce a carrion scent, how strong is this, would it bad enough that I can't keep the plant indoors?

I grow S. variegata but from offsets which root very easily. I do have seed but haven't tried germinating yet. You would probably germinate them in the same way as cactus seed, at least that's the way I would do it. No idea on the time from seed to flower I'm afraid.

The flower does stink but you have to get up pretty close to really smell it. It's fun to tell people to smell it once they comment on it's beauty, it never gets old watching people gag when they do. They only last a few days and you could always move it if the smell bothered you.

Yeah, the flowers from this genus (hope I'm using the correct term) have such beautiful and striking flowers, it's tricky. Thanks, I will be germinating these along with my lops. I've got several species of cacti germinating this year, it's gonna be a good one. =)
