Strange bright blue-green flash 2

Last summer me and about 7 other friends were sitting on my porch. It was around 1 or 2 in the morning with partly cloudy skies and we were just talking to each other trying to figure something out to do. After contemplating what to do we decided to stargaze for a bit. After looking into the cosmos for a few minutes out of nowhere comes this extremely bright blue-green flash of light that appeared to have come from somewhere in the sky in the distant horizon(at least a few miles away). The flash was so bright that it light it up nearly the entire sky, but only for a split-second (If we hadn't been so intensely focused on the sky we would have missed it. I don't even think we would have caught it in our peripheral vision). We all listened and watched intently but nothing followed. No noise, no other flash. We ruled out lightning almost immediately because the color of the flash was blue-green not white and no thunder followed the flash. We all got kinda freaked out by the whole thing so we all went home. The next day we all met up and discussed what had happened the night before. We stuck with the idea that it was not lighting and we ruled out a transformer exploding because it wasn't stormy and no power outages had been reported on the news. Other than that, we couldn't come up with a definite conclusion as to what we had seen.
Have you ever seen something like this? What do you think it could have been?

I have. Several times in fact. No idea what it was. Out of curiosity, in general, where were you when you saw it? We used to see it out in the desert in Eastern Oregon.

Probably a meteorite that contained copper in it's make-up.
Falling, falling, and burning through our atmosphere.

That's very interesting that you experienced it in the PNW because that is where I saw it. Vancouver Washington to be exact. The particular area where the light originated from is low populated farm land.
The flash was much too bright to be a meteor. The flash literally light up miles of sky.

Like a camera flash, but faster, and less bright. Lighting up the sky in all directions.

Spot on wildernessjunkie. Also, I say the blue-green light was extremely bright because it had to have been to light up that much sky.

Bright in that it lit up the whole sky, but not so bright it was blinding. Faint enough that if you werent looking, you wouldnt have noticed. Thats what I meant.

I remember when I was little I saw a huge flash of light that lit up the whole sky... I remember it was a kind of bluish color too. My mom saw it as well, and I remember she was stunned just as I was. I lived in San Antonio TX, right near the airport and we ended up thinking that it came from the airport because you see a lot of weird lights from there. But this light literally lit up the whole sky.......... I remember it like yesterday.

Yeah, especially since they were looking at the sky, I'm guessing it wasn't that bright, but was simply more intense than normal lightsources in the sky and that the intensity of a distant point source needed to light up the sky would have been quite large.
Sounds like an aurora to me. Both the color and the transient nature in relatively low lattitude seem to fit an energetic solar discharge reaching them. Rather than a very intense point source then, it would be a diffuse source of particles emiting the light, which seems to match what they describe.

a long time ago... the sky was clear... I was outside in the wilderness staring at the stars when I got flashed... my grandmother also got flashed while she was falling asleep... the flash got her through the window ... she wasn't paying attention, but I'm guessing she still saw it because there was no city light around... it looked exactly like the video... an explosion of light and then a shooting-star like trace... no green and blue colors though... i was wondering what the hell that was for a while... i only saw the trace after the flash so i was confused... it was also much further away... cant really say if it was as strong because a camera was used in the video... it seemed stronger...

I live in Hawaii, specifically on Oahu in Waikiki. It was around 11 at night or so and i was with 2 friends in the Kaimuki high school field by my house. I saw a flash of green light that lit the whole sky. It lasted for 1 to 2 seconds but not less than a second. One of my friends was sitting facing the opposite direction of me, and he even witnessed the sky in his direction flash green. It was way too bright to be a meteor very odd because the light colored the whole sky the same shade. Just as if someone turned on a green light and turned it off. I wonder how many people realized this even happened. Cant be an aurora I'm in Hawaii and it wasn't like a magnetic field of energy it was literally a lighting of the sky.

I saw a meteorite light up the entire sky once. It streaked across the sky at an indeterminable distance and was bright green with a bluish trail. Probably very far away as it didn't make any sound, but it was HUGE. It was one of the most amazing things I've ever seen and my friend was right there watching the same thing. The reason I turned around to see what the hell was going on was because the entire sky just lit up, bright white.
The weird part was we were just talking about meteors literally seconds before, and I have never seen aything like it before nor since. I suppose it happens sometimes. It was incredibly dumbfounding, though.
