colonization time 4 rye berries

After 10 years of the BRF cakes my friend finally decided to try bulk. He got sterilized rye berries in QT jars from Out G and new syringes from T.H.E. Equ, Braz, GT, and B+ 3cc in each of four jars. 70-78 degrees F. Five full days later and nothing! When should my friend start to worry. Thanks

I would worry if you see nothing by 15 days.
Also 3CC is to much spore solution for a QT jar in my opinion.
I would lean more towards using 1cc.

Well it turned out the jars were a little too cool. Turned out great. Used 4:1horse poo compost to rye berries. 4" substrate under 1"casing(all from out grow) in a breadpan sized Tupperware. Two pans inside good sized Rubbermaid. 78deg and light humidity on lower half of sides of bin(no perlite). Am I in relatively good shape? Also how often should they be fanned? No polyfilled holes

I would turn that rubbermaid into a shot gun fruiting chamber(SGFC) with 4 inches of moist perlite and use that for fruiting. This will provide proper humidity, and proper FAE when you mist and fan several times a day.
Check out RR's Lets Grow Mushroom BRF Tek video for exact instructions for building your SGFC. Your mushrooms will thank you.

Good advice! Thanks. Will this setup be fine until they're colonized and (hopefully) pinning? Or would you advise doing the shotgun now?

I would agree due to the fact that it is rye and rye has the qualities of holding a lot of water already, so don't get them too wet with the spore solution. And keep them at room temps, they tend to overcondensate inside the jars when raised to higher temps....good luck

Before opening the fc for any reason, one should blast the area with Lysol. How long should you let the spray settle before popping open the lid? Could the casings be harmed by Lysol fallout?

Forgive me that last post! I typed Lysol into the forum search and about 5,000 Lysol related posts were at my disposal! Lol. Ill dispose of my Lysol.

After reading dozens of past threads on casing, I'm still confused on one aspect When spawning the Brazil rye berries to the horse poo substrate, is the tray cased immediately... or should one wait until the substrate fully colonized before casing? Two trays in the sgfc were cased immediately after spawning. Birthed after showing very even nickel sized myc spots on 30%of surface. One patching done. One hopes he didn't mess up!

wait until after the substrate is fully colonized, before casing
but I dont even case, as cubensis dont require it at all...
you dont know how colonized the actual substrate is , if you apply a casing layer on top of it...

I was afraid of that. Do you think the first two trays will be okay? Casing layer seems fine. Still seems loose. You think overlay might be a problem? No knots or pins showing. Just ropey white spots of myc.

Thanks biologys! Just glad to hear there's hope lol. Next jar up is B+. Same sized trays but no casing layer this time. I'll post my progress... if any : )

You can case before full colonisation or after or not at all its mostly a matter of preferance and what works for you best
