Difference in using coco coir with vermiculite for casing?

What is the difference in using just vermiculite versus using a 40/60 ratio of coco coir with vermiculite in a casing? Would there be differences in timing, number of flushes, or size of flushes? Is it advisable to use just vermiculite to case a colonize rye substrate?

verm and coir both suck as casing layers.
they are ingredients in a bulk substrate.
try peatmoss/verm if you feel like casing.
but keep in mind that cubensis do not need a casing layer.

if you're just starting and you want to spawn to a substrate, not a casing..i would suggest just trying coir for your first attempt...

Coco-coir is not a casing material. Coir is a bulk substrate material.
Peat moss is the organic material used in casing covers with the the vermiculite at equal parts. Add 1 part gypsum and .25 parts agricultural nydrated lime to each 10 parts peat moss/vermiculite casing mix.
Vermiculite alone will work as a sub-optimal casing cover. It's best to add the peat moss as a non-nutritious organic material to vermiculite as a casing cover.
Peat moss is an organic material. When pasteurized properly, peat moss contains the beneficial microbes that battle invader spores. When using vermiculite alone, sterilize it in a pre-heated oven at 350F for a half an hour. Vermiculite can also be steam sterilized or pressure sterilized each for 90 minutes.

AS everyone has said coir is no longer used as a casing layer..
Bulk substrate = coir and verm.. or poo and verm
Casing = peat moss and verm
