Greetings and peace! Psilocybe cyanescens under my maple?
    #13690412 - 12/27/10 11:01 AM (13 years, 3 months ago)

i found some new growth under my maple tree, in a large pot here in cold, wet SF.  i was curious as to their identity and so did some  searching online -- they look like psilocybe cyanescens.

can the experts help me determine if these are in fact psilocybe cyanescens?

photo montage attached...

thank you!  peace, om shanti shanti shanti.

That was my thought at first but looking at the stem on the small one in the bottom picture makes me think Galerina sp.

Galerina was what I was thinking, too. But the gills seem a bit creamy. Difficult to tell like this. Picking a few specimen and taking pics of cap, stipe and gills in front of a neutral background in daylight conditions should clear it up.
Definitely NOT a Psilocybe.

It's a look alike to a Psilocybe Cyan., but definitely not one.

Alot of Little Brown Mushies "kinda" look like them, but the ones you are looking for have a distinctly WHITE stem. They also have a cortinate veil in the young specimens.

If you find some that are wavy capped (more caramel colored) with a white stem, you may be on to something. Next look for a blueing reaction, and a dark brown / purple brown / black spore print.

There are tons of these LBM's like you found around the bay BTW. Many are pretty damn close, but once you find the real ones you'll know how to spot them from the look-a-likes.
