first time w/ brf cake jars, when to birth?
    #13695790 - 12/28/10 02:24 PM (3 years, 10 months ago)

BRF CAKE JARS inoc dec 7th from spores
Their all pretty well colonized but all showing appx 1 sq in ON THE BOTTOM OF THE JAR where the mix still shows.

How long after the glass of the jar is fully white should i birth them?

Also their appears to be alot of moisture between the glass and white (colonized) areas is that normal?

Thanks.

I wait at least a week when the last bit of color is gone from the glass...To let it fully take hold of the sub....
The water is normal

Once that one square of uncolonized substrate material gets covered in Myc, wait one week then birth into fruiting conditions.

You plan on using a SGFC correct?

and yes, some moisture is produced from fungi metabolism and pools next to the glass. As long as it does not pool on that bottom and/or the jar smells sweet/sour/rancid. Your fine.

Its hard to wait, but do it. The more pins, or baby boomers, in the jar before you birth (then dunk+roll) the more mushrooms you will harvest. Plus, if you wait now, before birthing, you will wait less time in the long run for the first flush.
