Last November when I finally found a handful for the first time I immediately set out to establish a culture on peroxi agar. It took a while, there was a funky parasite growing on the patch I had found. Anyway after finally getting it going I transferred it to a few quart jars of rye grain. This took about a month to fully colonize. I then transferred that to a spawn bag full of sterile wood chips I got from a tree chipping crew across the street a few months before, I think it was an ash tree. This took about a month to colonize also. I think I put them out towards the end of February , I had two , one I broke up and mixed with more chips in a shady spot the other I buried whole in chips, It died from the inside out though, lost that one. the one that made it grew ferociously, probably about 18 in in all directions through 4inch deep chips. It really likes these cheap black woodchips from home depot my backyard is covered in, I think its called Scotts nature scape. So I kept the patch covered up all summer long with big plastic tub lids and a beach umbrella and watered it daily or every other day, it really likes alot of water. As soon as the temps dropped into the 40s and with only 1 day of rain it pinned . got about 90 mushrooms on the first flush and its still pinning. Hopefully Ill get a few more flushes. If its not stormy and raining I have to mist them two times a day with the water hose or they'll dry out and die. Nice grow
