Yes, SS has come out with textbooks logs, one after the other, and often difficult and exotic species/strains.
I am trying his Gymnopilus right now. It is not the easiest thing I have tried. ...I need to read his log again. ;0)
Good luck!

Just wanted to add a little note about the benefit of patience when fruiting Mex A (I assume most sclerotia species are similar... correct me if I'm wrong, SS).
I harvested some stones about 4 weeks ago, left a few with the grain then did a straight casing, no added substrate.
After 3 1/2 weeks I had seen nothing, not even myc poking through the casing. I woke up yesterday to find 6 huge pins(compared to my previous attempts/successes) popping their beautiful heads up. This morning there were a couple more and they look super-healthy and vigorous.
I know these guys will take longer than cubes, but I was kind of giving up hope for this tray.
So basically my message is: hang in there and give the little suckers time, you may be rewarded even if things look less than spectacular for a few weeks.
I'm just using a SGFC, with a little extra fanning/misting each day. Can't wait to harvest, gonna try a stones+Mex A combo, hope they will compliment each other nicely.

I've used coffee grinds at about a 10:1 ratio to verm/coir/manure.(as in 10 parts verm/coir/manure to 1 part coffee...) That was with cubes though..
Don't add too much, it is more of a substrate additive than an actual bulk..
I'm sure someone can give you more accurate info, but I believe that is about right.. Best thing to do is always try a few different mixes and post your results!!

well done egodeathflux I bet you were pleased to get some lovely little fruits in the end
I have got some jars inoculated with mexicana A. i used a multi-spore lc. It has been months now and still no stones!!! I got the spores from MRCA. The jars all fully colonized and then just don't seen to want to make stones :S
Could it be that i have ended up with a non fruiting set of strains? I have 50 jars like this XD although i used 3 different liquid cultures to inoculate them. I cant believe my luck.
If anyone could make any suggestions i would appreciate any help, i might post pics at later date, but they are fully colonized just with out any stones
My plan of action now is to put some spores from the syringe onto agar and try and isolate a stone producing strain
great thread sunstone i read your beer brewing thread as well awesome
heres my lazy little jars ...

I'm sorry bro, but that does not look like sclerotia mycelium. I think you should try casing one of those jars and see what kind of fruit pops up. My bet is that you will get cubes.

thanks for the replies, I may well have to fashion a SGFC and try and get some fruits! The mycelium did start very whispy to begin with but has become thicker over the months of incubation at room temp.
For now all I can do is drool over everyone else's sclerotia pics mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm :P

I'd agree that myc looks too thick and cotton-y for sclerotia strains, though my only experience is with Mex A... Often times with LC I've had stones forming at 50%ish colonization.. Got my original syringe from MRCA too, it worked fine..
If it turns out to be cubes then I'd hit them with an email and see what they can offer you. Usually pretty good customer service from sponsors, mention you're on Shroomery, that always helps. Good luck.
BTW I got most of that tray pictured above covered in fruits now, should get a decent harvest after all!
