I will confess something that should be quite obvious, CC.  I love mushrooms, i.e. fungi.  I really do.  I am talking about a strong feeling, i.e. emotion, for them.  I think they are beautiful.  I even dream of them.

I think this is my best work so far.  I could do better but it would take longer.  I hope to describe some new species this year so I am working on being able to do professional quality work.  I am not there yet but in a few months I will be.

The mushroom pictures did not turn out as well as I would have liked, I am going back through this area in a few days to make some more collections and take more pictures.

There were 3 of us the other 2 got altitude sickness real bad because we camped at 11,420 feet elevation.  So I had to do all the collection and microscopy in 2 hours while the other 2 people retreated to a lower area.  Cactu spent all night throwing up and felt like he was going to die the next morning.

There were a ton of interesting species that I had never seen before, I will make a thread about them soon.  I have a feeling that many are undescribed, I hope to do a more thourough search of the area in the near future.

I assume they were potent because they stained blue, but I did not eat any.

Maybe I will eat some but probably not.  I like eating actives but there are so many things to do, great people to hang out with and neat places to go that I have not found any time to eat any this trip.

The altitude made me feel like I was on drugs, I was somewhat light headed and really happy, but without the confusing side effects that many drugs have.

Some habitat shots:

A video of the mushrooms:

Its not easy to take video through the microscope but here is my first attempt at capturing the unique pleurocystidia:

Guzman´s monograph lists the spore size as (10.4) 12 - 14 (-17) x (6-) 6.6 - 7.7 (-8.8).  I measured 25 spores and they were significantly smaller.  The other microscopic features roughly match up.  I don´t believe in publishing new species based on spore size alone but if I can find some other differences this could maybe be something new.

Not often.  Hippie is a very good dog.  People are always terrified of him which is hilarious because he is just about the most chill dog I have ever met.  Looks pretty scary though.

Yea I have been trying to get to Colima for a month.

I am in Mexico City now, as soon as I get this jeep working and the papers in order I will drive it to Colima.

Got pulled over today for making an illegal left turn.  The people in the car told me it was ok but they were wrong.  The cop was a very hot chick.  She said my license was expired even though it does not expire until 2013.  She asked for our tarjeta de circulacion and we did not have it.  This card is required to drive in Mexico city.  She said she had to tow the car and it would cost 3000 pesos.  We ended up bribing her with 400 pesos and she let us go.
