Infected Liquid Culture? (pics)
    #13215114 - 09/18/10 07:49 PM (4 years, 2 months ago)

Hey guys just wondering if you think this LC is infected? It was made with 4% honey and water and 1cc of spore solution. It has like a yellow/brown colour inside the clouds of myc, which is similar colour to honey so it could be normal. What do you guys think

Looks good to me but I'd try a small test jar to make sure, you don't want to innoc pounds of grain without checking.

You're LC is not infected.
You used honey as your nutrient source so the brown yellow you see in the middle of the myce is the color of the honey.

Very hard to tell if LC's are 100 percent viable, visually until you inoculate a test jar.
From what I can see they look good.

No discoloration and the LC its self is not cloudy.  :super:

Give the test jar 5-7 days to come back un contaminated and your LC is good.

I can usually tell if LC's are contaminated or not visually, although not always.
One time around had a perfect looking LC that was contaminated.
Was cocky and all grain jars inoculated with said LC came back contaminated.

LC's are do not alway show visible signs of contamination.
Best bet with an LC is to test it to a few grain or BRF jars before you spread it around.
Also for a faster colonizing myce use 1 tablespoon of LME/DEX per quart of water.
This LC colonizes quickly as well as shreds the grains once it hits them.

1 tablespoon of LME alone can be used as well for a grain shredding LC.
